I host meetings and deliver webinars regularly using Zoom, PowerPoint, and multiple monitors.

(1) The floating meeting control bar is no longer available when "Advanced" screen-sharing to a "Second camera."
(2) This also causes problems when enabling captions.

Everything works normally when screen-sharing another screen.

Step 1: screen-share another screen

Success: floating meeting control bar is visible and Zoom windows are minimized

But there is no floating meeting control bar when screen-sharing a "Second camera."

Step 1: screen-share Second camera

A new sort of meeting window appears with meeting controls at the bottom.

Step 2: minimize Zoom windows

Fail: only the mini-window is visible, with minimal controls

Step 3: click the ^ icon

Fail: only minimal controls are now visible

Step 4: press ALT to show/hide controls

Fail: no controls visible at all

This also causes problems when enabling captions

For my setup, I need the captions to be floating freely on my monitor. But when screen-sharing to Second camera, the captions are contained within the Zoom window. If I minimize the zoom window, then the captions do float freely - however, I no longer have access to meeting controls (only minimal controls are visible; see above problem).

Step 1: screen-share Second camera

Step 2: enable captions

Fail: captions are contained within the Zoom window

Step 3: Minimize all Zoom windows

Success: captions are now freely floating; but Fail: meeting controls are now entirely missing

Troubleshooting attempts:

I have tried changing potentially relevant settings with no success. E.g. enabling/disabling dual-monitors, side-by-side view, always show meeting controls. I tried this on two different Windows desktops. I have tried unplugging webcams and other devices. I have restarted my computer. I have checked for Zoom updates.

I'm thinking of signing up for zoom again, but the only thing that is holding me back is the ability to present when using Google slides. I'm unable to attach an example from Google Meet that I currently use, but when I present a deck it allows me to have my notes on screen at the same time that only I can view. Is this something that I can do on zoom when presenting? I know at the moment it pops out and that's not very helpful at all.

Hi Zoom Community,

We run an entrepreneurial competition, and I would love a way to integrate Zoom polls into our process. The problem with a lot of the online surveys we are currently using is they only give you a weighted scale of the responses. I want the surveys not to give me an average but the totals for each question. That way we can compare different entries and quickly see which is best. Has anyone successfully used Zoom polls to judge business presentations? Any tips on how to do this? Our current method is using MS Forms, dump into Excel and then add. It's cumbersome and a hassle to do in real time.

Hi Zoom team,

I work with people who have disabilities and use speech generating devices on computers, smartphones, and tablets. It would be great if people who use augmentative and alternative communication devices could tick a box to share their device audio for the purpose of communication without sharing their screen. What do you think? Any questions or clarifications I can offer I'd be happy to help!

I logged into Zoom yesterday and this message is at the top of my home page window: "

Some features are disabled due to limited network" and I was also unable to join a meeting as it seemed to stall out on the "connecting" window.

I am also unable to start a meeting. When I click "new meeting" it opens the video preview window and says "connecting" at the top for a long time before it says I am unable to connect.

I am using Zoom version 6.2.6 and mac OS 11.7.10. I have tried restarting, uninstalling and reinstalling zoom, and signing in and out but nothing works.

I was able to join a meeting from the web browser version of zoom but it doesn't work very well for me and sometimes the window flickers.

Any ideas welcome!

Pro Tip #6 - Troubleshooting missing profile pictures when video off

Hi everyone,

I’ve compiled a list of possible reasons for why your profile picture is not being displayed in meetings with your video off and ways to fix them. Please keep in mind, some of these will be things you can check and address on your end as a participant, while others may be something the host of the meeting has to change on their end.

Common causes and solutions:

  • Are you signed-in to the desktop or mobile app?
    • Most meeting attendees will click on the join link, which opens the web browser and redirects to the desktop or mobile app, but that process doesn’t automatically include you signing-in to the Zoom app. If you’re not signed-in to your account, then the app doesn’t know which user’s profile picture to download and display for others in the meeting. To resolve this, while outside of a meeting, open the Zoom app and sign-in to your Zoom account. Be sure to check the Stay signed in box to avoid this in the future. Once that is done, you can still join meetings via the link, but authentication should already be handled.
  • Are you signed-in to the correct account?
    • Your name is displayed correctly and you might even be signed-in to a Zoom account on the app, but are you signed in to the same account with the profile picture? Occasionally, users will accidentally create a duplicate profile with a different email address or login method (Google, Facebook, or Apple) and be signed-in to one account on the web site and a completely different one on the app.
    • The easiest way to check this is to compare the Personal Meeting ID (PMI) listed on your listed on your profile page with the PMI listed on the Meetings tab of the Zoom app.
If they match, then you’re in the same account on both.
If they don’t match, sign out and switch accounts. You may then upload the picture to your primary account.
    • Keep in mind, you might have uploaded a picture to your profile, but for the other account. Figure out which account you want to be your primary account, then upload the picture and stay signed in to only that account.
  • Are you attending a meeting or a webinar?
    • Meetings will allow everyone to see everyone else as a participant, whereas a webinar only allows the host and other designated panelists to be visible to everyone. If you don’t see any video options on your control toolbar, it's likely you’re attending a webinar and there is nothing you can do from your end to display your profile picture.

Things that only the host can check and fix:

  • The host has the Hide participant profile pictures in a meeting setting enabled on their account
    • If this is enabled for the host’s account, then all their meetings will not display a profile picture, even if everything mentioned above is correct.
    • Hosts cannot change this setting during a live meeting, so it's best to provide that feedback to the host before the next session. Keep in mind that they may have a specific reason to hide profile pictures.
  • The host has disabled profile pictures through in-meeting security settings
    • If the host has checked the Hide Profile Pictures option, then all participants’ profile pictures will be hidden while that option is enabled.
    • The host can disable this during a live meeting, so reach out to the host through in-meeting chat to request showing your profile picture. Keep in mind that they may have a specific reason to hide profile pictures.
