WARNING to Zoom Webinar Hosts: Don't Use the New "Shared Content Only" Feature

You may have noticed that Zoom recently released a new "Shared Content Only" view mode that webinar hosts can use in "Follow Host View" mode to hide all panelist video tiles and show only the shared content (like slides or any other screenshare).  It's a very useful new feature that was designed to let webinar hosts have more control over what their attendees are seeing.  There are definitely lots of use cases where a webinar host may want to hide all of the video tiles, especially during transitions between presentation or program segments.

HOWEVER... The problem is that the "Shared Content Only" view will NOT work for many of your attendees.  If attendees are using the browser-based version of Zoom, or if they have an older version of the Zoom desktop client, the video tiles WILL NOT disappear for them when the webinar host switches to "Shared Content Only" view.  As you might imagine, this can cause a lot of embarassing problems if the host THINKS they are hiding all of the panelist video when in fact a whole bunch of attendees are still seeing the video.

Zoom never bothered to tell their customers that this new feature does not work across all Zoom attendee versions.  And, even worse, after being told about this problem they apparently have no plans to fix it (this is what I've been told via a support ticket).

So - webinar hosts - don't use the "Shared Content Only" feature unless all of your attendees are using the most current version of the Zoom desktop client or the mobile app (of course, it's impossible to know this).  Since Zoom hasn't bothered telling their customers about this, hopefully this message will be seen by some and prevent potential embarassment.

It's really a shame that Zoom released a new feature that wasn't properly developed or tested.  If it actually worked correctly, it would be a very useful feature for webinar hosts.  As it stands now, it's pretty much useless if it doesn't work across the board for all attendees.

Hi,

Sigh. Last night we had a large webinar. And my helper who was co-host didn't realize that I as host was sharing my screen because she only saw me in speaker view. She had inadvertently mouses over a tab - that never used to be there. See screen shot. Both tabs are cirlced, one red, one yellow.

I swear these tabs never used to be there. And I cannot figure out what purpose they serve.

If I as host set "follow host view" and I accidentally click on a tab, will the attendee view change?

Why? Why? Why? Thanks for any insight on this!

I facilitated a training session today.  We had a producer running the presentation deck and I had my script up for myself.  Each time the next slide would appear, my script would disappear, as if Zoom was prioritizing my view for me.  How do I solve this problem?  I need the script to remain at the top of my window at all times.

Webinar - Hide Participants but Allow Chat

I know I can hide participants in webinar mode for privacy but can I still allow for chat? I am conducting a virtual focus group and participants have the option to enter a real or fake name, use their camera or not. Will the settings work?

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing issues joining Zoom Meetings using a Logitech Rally Bar that’s set up as a Microsoft Teams Room device with Zoom support enabled.

While I can successfully join meetings scheduled with a Zoom Workplace Business, Webinar, or Large Meeting license, I consistently face issues when attempting to join meetings scheduled with a Zoom Events 1000 license.

Here’s what happens:

  1. Both the Workplace Business and Zoom Events meetings appear on the Logitech TAP panel at the scheduled time.
  2. For the Workplace Business meeting, I get a Join button and can connect without issues.
  3. For the Zoom Events meeting, there’s no Join button available, making it impossible to join.
  4. I also tried joining via Meeting ID, but after signing in, I encountered a "Webpage Not Available" error.

I’ve been working with Zoom Support on this for over a month without resolution, so I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has experienced a similar issue.

If you’ve faced this or found a solution, I’d greatly appreciate your insights!

Thanks in advance for your help.

How to enable webinar panelists to see live poll results

The panelists in my webinar would like to see the results of the poll before they are shared with the webinar. Is it possible to give them access? Or do we need to make them co-hosts to see this?

Thanks,
Mary

I have a Zoom registration form for an event, which asks for First Name, Last Name and Email Address.

I am directing classmates to this form from our class website.

I want to not require them to complete the above 3 fields as that information is known to us on the sending website before the redirect.

How do I supply this information in the redirect (either in the URL or in a POST format)? And how do I find out the names of these three fields?

I am using PHP on my server side and HTML/JavaScript on the client side.
