Workplace installer fails with 0xc00007b error

Zoom stopped functioning during a video meeting and would then freeze if I tried to rejoin the meeting.  So I uninstalled it. Then downloaded the latest Zoom installer and tried re-installing. Initially the error was about a missing dll (d3dcompiler_47.dll) so downloaded 32 and 64bit versions. Then the Zoom installer error changed to

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc00007b). Click OK to close the application."

The installer gets far enough that Zoom Workplace v6.2.3 (47507) shows up on the list of installed programs

Troubleshooting steps

The OS is Windows 8 (yes I know! but it is what it is). Because of the missing dll issue I decided to run

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth  and  sfc /scannow.

sfc claimed to have fixed any errors that were found.

I also uninstalled/reinstalled ATI Radeon graphics drivers (which included  Microsoft Visual C++ redistributal

Tried the installer again, 0xc00007b error still persists. Any suggestions where to look next?

Hello   @damo44

It appears that this was addressed in a MSFT post which has good steps to follow for troubleshooting: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/the-application-was-unable-to-start-correctly/...

Another thing to note is that as it is a Windows 8, please see the note in our documentation concerning further support of Zoom on this OS: "The Zoom desktop app will no longer be supporting Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 with the 6.0.0 release. Version 5.17.11 will be the last version available for these operating systems." Reference to this page is here: https://support.zoom.com/hc/en/article?id=zm_kb&sysparm_article=KB0060748

If it assists, the installers for 5.17.11 are here:

If the above installers do not work on your Windows 8, there is not much that can be done other than attempted to download older versions of Zoom, or try the steps in the MSFT article above.

I hope this helps and please make sure to mark the solution as accepted if this information is what you needed.

Thank you,

Jake

Thanks Jake

I skipped past the Microsoft Answers section as I think I'd done most of that already.

The link to  Version 5.17.11 was really helpful and I installed that version. Although the install went ok, Zoom would still hang whenever the webcam was in use. Out of ideas, I unplugged the webcam, uninstalled the device and reinstalled.

It now works. I think the root cause was a problem with camera, but I don't know for sure. Thanks for the help and pointer to the last version which would work on my ancient Windows 8
