got a meeting invite with an id and a link. the link was app.uso7zoom.us but when i click it took me to a site that looked similar to the zoom launch meeting landing page. i hit join meeting but nothing happens.
the host that sent the link asks me to turn on my VPN because he is in Argentina and i Africa but it still doesn't work instead it starts download the file at the top of the image shared. but i stopped it as soon as my pc flagged it as virus. the meeting id also didn't work.
is this a scam??

I have no doubt it is scam. *.zoom.com or *.zoom.us and make sure it is a https and not http.

YES!
It is a scam. They send you a nice zoom link which is not the authentic URL and it takes you to the same fake Zoom Page. When you click on launch meeting it ask you to download the file and you wonder you already have zoom installed.
What they are doing is making users install fake application so they can steal something. It's better when you are suspicious, always check the URL first. They almost have same URL but slightly different. Plus a genuine user/client won't ask you to turn on VPNs or install any tools just to have a conversation.
Stay safe!
