Adding a user to my Zoom license

I purchased a Zoom license using my personal email address. I have another email address that I'd like to add but when I do, it tells me that it can only be given the 'basic' status. I thought I had purchased 5 licenses?

I'd recommend checking the Billing page on your account to see how many licenses you have purchased. The number listed under QTY should indicate how many licenses you have purchased.

Check https://zoom.us/billing to see how many licenses you have.
I don't know how many you purchased, but a single Pro license is for a single user.
You can add licensees under https://zoom.us/billing and assign them to users under https://zoom.us/account/user

so, my Pro license 'supports' up to 5 licenses but you have to pay an additional amount for each license...is that what I'm to understand?

Actually I think Pro is up to 9 - but yes - each user requires a license.
