Mac built-in camera is darkish when I'm sitting in front of camera but not when I move away. When I'm sitting 30" away, background is quite dark .... ominous. When I move away background appears as it appears off-camera ... ... 2020 IMAC .... cannot find adjustments. Any ideas?

Be sure your face is well lit. go to settings > background & effects > adjust for low light.

did all that .... nada!
