I'm trying to set a zoom contact as Alternative Host.  After adding the person to my (zoom) contacts and they accept, why cant I add them as an Alternative Host when scheduling a meeting?  This person is not on my zoom account but has a free zoom account.

It was my understanding that to be an alternative Host one must be on the same account  AND have a paid account.

Yes - the Alternative Host must be a licensed user on the same Zoom account  - at in https://zoom.us/account/user#/

A "contact" may be something else - I am not sure...

https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/208220166-Alternative-host

Prerequisites

  • Zoom desktop client for Windows or macOS, 4.1.8826.0925 or higher
  • Zoom mobile app
    • Android: 4.1.8860.0925 or higher
    • iOS: 4.1.8855.09254.1.8855.0925 or higher
  • Both users need to be Licensed and on the same account
  • For webinar, the user who schedules the meeting needs both a license and the webinar add-on; the alternative host only needs to be Licensed
  • Alternative hosts must be signed in to Zoom with the correct account in order to be granted the host or co-host permissions

Rupert

Thank you for the two links, they are very informative.

Contacts are different than Alternative Host:

Hi,

Can the alternate host be someone who has a different licensed zoom account?
Thank you

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @Hazel-Volk.

No.  The requirements are that both user logins  (session owner and potential Alt Host) must be licensed and on the same account – the same owner.

Ray -- check out the GoodClix website or the Z-SPAN website.
