Ending calls with headset buttons?

Cubelodyte

I'm wondering if there is any headset with a call answer/end button that will actually end Zoom Phone calls. I've tested two different models: a Poly Blackwire C3210 and a Yealink UH34 Dual. The former is similar to an officially-supported model, and the latter is an officially-supported model.

Both models feature a call answer/end button. The button on both models does work to answer incoming Zoom Phone calls, but pressing the button during a call does not end the call. It simply has no effect. A cursory skim of the Internet indicates others have encountered this behavior.

Zoom's official list of supported USB HID devices for the desktop client notes "Certain Poly, Jabra, and EPOS headsets support end a meeting or hang up a Zoom Phone call when used with USB dongles and the associated applications."

This is an extremely basic telephony feature that is missing from Zoom. It is not a new concept, and I'm pretty disappointed Zoom has failed to include the feature. Is Zoom working on adding this functionality?

hi

I tested Yealink UH34 Dual UC headset.

Yealink has two editions of this headset – UC and MS Teams.  See Quick Start Guide showing both UC and MS Teams editions.  The MS Teams edition is designed to work only with MS Teams; therefore, for Zoom Phone you should use the UC edition.

I tested the UC version which was able to answer and end Zoom Phone calls while using Zoom Workplace version 6.1.11 (45504) for MS Windows.

To answer and end calls, you must have the latest version of Yealink USB Connect installed and running (can be minimized).

hi cubelodyte,

you might try jabra evolve2 se 30 uc.

it appears you need to install jabra direct to get the end phone call feature.  see the compatibility guide.  jabra direct appears to be a free app.

hi cubelodyte,

tested jabra evolve 30 se with zoom workplace for windows version 6.1.11 (45504) and the answer/end call button on the headsets works to answer zoom calls and end zoom calls.

Eliot_0-1725031502465.png

before testing the headset, i

1.  installed jabra direct on my windows 11 lenovo ideacentre mini,

2. updated the headset firmware and jabra direct software, and

3.  enabled synch in zoom workplace audio settings.

You're right, Cubelodyte! Headset buttons not ending calls is frustrating. While Zoom supports some for answering, ending through buttons seems hit or miss. Here's hoping they improve compatibility for a smoother experience!

hi cubelodyte,

according to the  yealink compatibility file, uh34 dual is supported to end the call for zoom meetings. i suspect that you need to use yealink usb connect (YUC) which has similar features to jabra direct and poly lens.

the yealink compatibility file says that you need to

"Install the special YUC version to support end the call:  https://support.yealink.com/support-service/attachment/downLoadFile?fileCode=493fb68c72434859"

please let us know if this works for zoom meetings and zoom phone.

thanks,  eliot

Hi Eliot,

Sorry to respond so slowly, but many thanks for all the research you conducted. I'm in your debt.

Our team was hoping to not have to deploy additional software to support headsets used with Zoom telephony, as we'd prefer to have as few applications to patch and maintain as possible. But it seems like that might be unavoidable.

It still seems odd that the call answering feature works without Lens or USB Connect, respectively, but then I'm not a telephony engineer, and don't have a deep understanding of what's going on under the hood. I'm going to take another look at the models you mentioned with the attendant software.

Again, many thanks.

Oh, also, just to be clear for future readers, I was using the UC version of the Yealink UH34.
