Video zoom factor during Zoom sessions - how to change it?

We have a simple Logitech C170 Webcam that is able to change perspective by zooming in and out etc. It should be used to transfer a session from a conference room. Since only some people in the room were shown in the video, we put the camera further away to cover all participants. However zoom ignored this and instead zoomed the camera in to show only a small section of the room.

I tried the Microsoft Webcam Settings Tool, but it can't run concurrently with zoom. Does any of you know either

  • how to change zoom factor for my logitech camera during a meeting or
  • a cheap camera that does the trick? We use the conference room once a month and don't want to waste money on expensive equipment.

The C170 is an older model that is only XGA. Try Logi tune https://www.logitech.com/en-us/video-collaboration/software/logi-tune-software.html . If this does not work consider purchasing a Logitech Brio camera ($199).

A best choice webcam (which is physically larger) would be the Huddlecam HD camera ($300) which uses NDI allowing it to be controlled from various devices. It operates off of an ethernet cable with POE or a separate power supply.

To change the video zoom factor during Zoom sessions:

  1. For cameras with zoom capability: Use the camera’s software or settings to adjust the zoom level.
  2. Using Zoom’s settings: Go to “Video Settings” > “Camera,” and check if the camera supports zoom controls.
  3. Third-party apps: If your camera doesn’t have built-in zoom, use third-party apps to adjust zoom before sharing in Zoom.

Adjusting these settings allows for better control of your video feed during sessions.
