Hello,
How can I disable the notification "Not hearing anything? Turn up volume"?
This notification started appearing after I updated Zoom for Windows to version 5.16.10 and appears when the computer's volume is equal to or less than 10%.
I couldn't find the option to disable this alert in the Accessibility menu.
Solved! Go to Solution.

hi @once
This option can not be disabled at present.
It was added recently because of low volume problems of users.
all the best

This is a crap answer. My volume works just fine. Zoom needs to give people the option of turning that off permanently
ā2023-12-19 12:07 PM
Exactly, throw it under an accessibility feature for 'warning when system volume low' and let me turn it off.
I get the prompt at 50% system volume when using my headset. version 5.16.10
ā2023-12-21 07:40 AM
So Nvidia Broadcast is now incompatible because it defaults to 0 volume (not that it actually is, just the way the program works), thank for that.
This is such a bad take. Why are you punishing users that know what they are doing for those who cannot figure out what volume is. If you add this as a "feature" there should be an option to turn it off for those who are not idiots.
ā2023-12-13 06:21 AM
This needs to be removed or at least allow us to disable the pop up. My volume is fine. I accidentally clicked it and it immediately raised the volume to a painful level.
ā2024-02-02 08:02 AM
I did this, too, and learned the lesson. The lowest volume is actually a little too loud in my headphones and I use a third-party program trim that down 30%.
ā2025-01-08 09:05 AM
happened to me.. this is really annoying.
ā2024-01-09 06:09 AM
I'm having this same issue. The annoying "Not hearing anything?" popup appears at the beginning of every meeting even though my volume/sound is always fine (and hasn't changed recently).
At the very least, have the popup disappear after a few seconds. I shouldn't have to manually close it every time.
This is on Zoom desktop 5.16.10 for Windows. Thanks.
ā2024-01-22 01:32 AM
I second this - it should be possible to disable this feature since it is annoyingly catching my attention during each meeting while the volume is perfectly OK.
ā2024-01-26 07:22 AM
Please allow users to disable this "feature".
ā2024-02-16 11:42 AM
This needs to be a "feature" we can turn off!
ā2024-02-23 09:31 AM
Hi everyone! Thank you all for your feedback on this topic.
As @ExpertswhoJohn mentioned above, there is currently no way to disable this pop-up. However, I would highly encourage you to submit this feedback via the steps outlined here: Sending feedback to Zoom.
Our product teams review all feedback submitted via this form. Thank you and apologies for any inconvenience this may be causing you at the moment.
ā2024-08-15 07:38 AM
Is there a minimum volume that it needs to be set at to stop it showing?
Someone said if the volume is below 10% it'll show. Well my volume is currently on 60% and it's still showing!
I have external speakers, which I can adjust the volume on. So I can set them to super low, while turning up Windows' volume. But it still always seems to pop up.
It's not the end of the world, but it's an irritation to constantly see it whenever I start a call.
ā2025-01-13 12:06 AM
Bumping this topic to make is visible to the dev team / POs.
Golden rule of apps : for each feature, give an option to hide it or disable it.
Thank you !
ā2025-01-26 12:05 AM
I agree. This feature is so annoying. My volume is always fine. There are other annoying pop-ups that I want to turn off too, like when I share my screen there's this little square which pops out from under the tool bar.
ā2025-05-20 12:30 AM
Thank you bumping it up voidvoid, appreciated. I already sent a "request feature", no response yet.
ā2025-02-09 06:15 AM
Hello. Could you please contact development support and put in a request for this feature. Sometimes I screen record when I'm not there, then the entire Zoom meeting has a "Not hearing anything? Turn up volume"?
Please acknowledge. Thank you.
ā2025-02-11 07:55 AM
HI@bradsmithsite and others
I suggest you put your own request so the dev team can see more requirests.

Thank you.
ā2025-06-20 02:51 PM
frankly, it should not be my problem that someone doesn't know how to jack up the volume. The notice is annoying, stays on the record unless physically closed
ā2025-05-17 04:24 PM
I truly hate this notification. I am fully aware that I turned my sound down. Why? Because there was a person I truly did not want to hear. Are you my mother now? Reminding me my computer sound is still down? What the heck were you thinking? WE HATE IT. We are not dumb. We know sound is lowered and, guess what we will do if we want to hear it? We will turn it up! No notification needed.
ā2025-06-04 10:59 AM
My headphones are plenty loud at 4%. The threshold should be adjustable.
ā2025-07-27 10:35 AM
This is absolutely wild that this topic was marked as "solved" as it very much has not been solved. I've joined the choir of voices who have sent feedback through the app and hope this bug will finally get some attention.
ā2025-07-28 09:16 AM
The issue has been discussed many times, and we have had conversations with engineering. It is up to them whether they change this feature. They put it in because of the problems with people turning down the volume and never then hearing anything, so I would not expect this feature to change.
ā2025-08-04 01:56 AM
I understand this is turned on by default, but allowing users to disable it would make most sense. Engineering should understand this too.
ā2025-08-11 01:33 AM
"They put it in because of the problems with people turning down the volume"
Yeah I understand you have dumb users.
Every platform does.
But please do note that every person replying in this thread is not one of them and is able to use a computer.
So my requests above still stands : if your devs add a feature, create an option to disable it.
That's pure UX. I shouldn't even have to tell people how to do their job, to such a company like Zoom.
Also, to mention notifications, folder orders, basic use of group chat / conversations.
Everything is flawed. I can't believe it is year 2025 and you are still behind all of the competing companies.
ā2025-08-19 01:06 AM
@ExpertswhoJohn One week and no answer.
You are still having "conversations with engineering" ? š¤
ā2025-08-12 07:37 AM
@ExpertswhoJohn please formally acknowledge nobody is requesting to outright disable the feature, only to introduce a configurable setting to disable this notification.
The discussion thread has collected a substantial amount of clear objective feedback for Zoom that this should be a configurable setting to disable the notification. It is desired and warranted.
ā2025-08-19 04:05 AM
1. I am not a zoom employee, let alone part of the engineering team, so I dont know if they will adress this, till I see upcoming release notes
2. I remember the problems when people turned down their audio and could not hear. it was far more substantial than this
3. I have no influence on whether or not the team addresses it.
ā2025-08-21 12:11 AM
@ExpertswhoJohnif you are not a zoom employee, and no influence, what is the purpose of your answers, then ?
And the sole fact that this thread exists for almost TWO YEARS and still no options, and you have the audacity to wait for "the upcoming release notes".
In the meantime, the software get a big UI revamp to make things worse than before, adding notifications everywhere.
Is Zoom aware of the ensh*ttification they do ?

Hello @alexisbrown ,
I replied to your message above but it has been deleted.
You can't call this a community if don't allow users to express themselves.
If you are hurt about this, then I hit right.
So now it's on your side.
I am happy though to see that more comments are added here, to make you know that the feature is important for some of us.
I hope you understand now.
Regards.
ā2025-08-24 09:36 AM
I don't know either. Please let me know.
ā2025-08-25 12:19 AM
I accidentaly clicked that and blew out my ears. Create a **** option to never display it again. It's not hard. It will literally take just a few hours to implement this basic stuff.
ā2025-08-29 07:08 AM
This notification should be optional. I accidentally misclicked when closing it and Zoom turned up my volume from 3% to 100%. I was in a noisy environment and had earphones in my ears on top of which I had noise-cancelling headphones. The sudden ultra-high volume noise startled me and I couldn't take off my headphones for a few seconds. It has been 2 days and I have ringing in my ears. Will Zoom pay for my doctor fees?
ā2025-09-15 12:32 AM
Bump. This has not been solved yet. Please add the option to remove this notification permanently. I still have tinnitus in one of my ears because of this "feature".
ā2025-09-17 08:59 AM
This is the only app I have ever used that assumes I don't know how to control the volume on my device.
Accidentally clicking the button increases the volume an absurd amount.
Give us the option to disable this feature.
ā2025-10-01 03:39 AM
Ahhhhhhh.... I am tired of these notifications.
ā2025-10-20 06:30 AM
It happened again..... I am getting HEARING DAMAGE from this application. I will be contacting the national consumer protection authorities to investigate this as a potential health hazard.
