Do all users need their own phone number?

Hi everyone! We're new to Zoom Phone and have what may be a rudimentary question. Here is our situation:

  • Our new small business has two employees
  • We've purchased two Zoom Phone unlimited licenses
  • Each employee needs to be able to make and receive internal (to/from each other) and external (to/from clients) phone calls
  • Preferably, we'd have one "main company number" and when that number is called, both employees' would be notified and could answer via Zoom Phone (desktop or mobile). Additionally, when placing external calls, it's preferred that the "main company number" be displayed on caller ID.
  • We do not need (for our purposes) our own direct phone numbers that are separate from the main company number. In fact, we would never publicize them. Simply having an extension will do, but we must be able to receive and place calls.

So, with all of this in mind, do both employees need their own assigned phone number in order to actually use Zoom Phone? Or would they be able to make and receive internal and external phone calls using only a call queue for the main company number (plus dial-by-extension for internal calls)?

Or does each person require their own direct phone number in order to make/receive external calls?

Thank you for your help!

Hello @cody-fully

Not sure if you have received your answer yet.

do both employees need their own assigned phone number in order to actually use Zoom Phone? Or would they be able to make and receive internal and external phone calls using only a call queue for the main company number (plus dial-by-extension for internal calls)?

Answer: they do not need their own phone number, They can use the call queue's id as their outbound caller id and can make ext to ext calls as well

Or does each person require their own direct phone number in order to make/receive external calls?

answer: They will receive calls on behalf of the call queue since they do not have their own phone numbers. So make them part of the call queue so when someone calls the number, they both are notified and can answer the call

If this response helps, please accept the answer as an accepted solution, so others can benefit as well.

Hello.

I would like to ask a further question along these lines.

Now, if you took the exact situation above but threw a Receptionist into the mix that would answer the initial call to our office  instead of having the users extensions ring when the main company number is dialed, then could the Receptionist transfer the call to a user who doesn't have a phone number assigned to their their extension?
