Zoom crashes immediately upon joining meeting.

I am running Windows 11. Everytime I try to join a meeting on the desktop app, the meeting will open, ask if I want to join with computer audio, and when I click to join it crashes the window, loads the window again a second time, and then crashes. WHen I try to join again, it says that I am already in a meeting and asks to close it. I am also unable to join via web browser before updating to the most recent version. I have done an uninstall and done a clean install with CleanZoom. I have tried both the 64 and 32 bit versions and neither work.

Hi @capperson 

Sorry for your problems. I would start up Zoom and then use the Zoom settings to check the video and audio are working before opening a meeting.  If there is an issue with the device Zoom is using for sound or video, you may be able to see what caused the crash.

I am having the exact same problem,  and did the same updates as @capperson .  This is only happening on my desktop, vs. other devices, but the video and audio are working within the settings.  Seeking sage advice, please!

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @EllaPea! Kindly ensure that your device’s audio drivers are up to date. Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause conflicts with apps that rely on specific audio hardware capabilities. Here's how you can check for driver updates 

For Windows:

  1. Device Manager:

    • Right-click on the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
    • Right-click your audio device and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
    • If an update is available, Windows will install it. Restart your system after the update.
  2. Manufacturer’s Website:

    • Sometimes, Windows might not find the latest driver. In that case, go to your computer or sound card manufacturer’s website (e.g., Realtek, Creative Labs, or your laptop's brand).
    • Search for the latest audio drivers for your device model and download them.

For Mac:

  • Software Update:
    • Go to the Apple menu in the top-left corner and select System Preferences.
    • Click on Software Update.
    • If there’s an update available for audio drivers or system updates, install it and restart the system.

Have you heard of Zoom AI Companion?

I use avast driver updater and can verify that all my drivers are genuinely up to date. I have this issue and this is not the solution.

I'm having a similiar problem, but only for certain types of Zoom calls. Calls that are scheduled to last 2 hours are fine. Calls that are scheduled to last 4 hours lead to Zoom failing to join a session, then trying again and give up.

I am having the same issue. My drivers are updated and nothing about my set up has changed since I was last able to use zoom normally, except for zoom having updated. I have been able to use Zoom by browser to join the same meeting I was unable to join with the Zoom Workplace program without issue, but would rather be able to use the actual program...

Was working great until about a week ago and then bam just like everyone else here it started misbehaving. We are currently under a very tight deadline, I desperately need a fix for this trying to do meetings in the web browser is more time consuming and does not work well with my teams flow.

so I don't know if this sheds light on this at all but I just tried checking my zooms audio settings and it instantly crashed. I am assuming it s got to be a bug in whatever the most current update or version is. Tried multilple times same result

this is a huge problem. seems like I'm not alone with the desktop app crashing/leaving the meeting immediately upon joining. this only started with an update, where it now asks me to select my camera/mic before joining. NEED FIX ASAP! I have important zoom presentations that I have to host.

note: it works fine through the browser, but the quality is terrible.

You can try the following to potentially fix this issue:
1. In your windows bar search up "Control Panel"

2. Within the control panel search "Manage Audio Devices", click on that option and don't click "SOUND"

3. Go to "Recording" found at the top of the pop-up

4. Right click on all devices that isn't being used and disable all of them

5. Now with the device you're using and kept enabled, right click and go into its "Properties".

6. Go to "Advanced" found at the top

7. Under "default format:" there is a drop-down, click it and you should see various options that look like "(1 or 2 channel, 16 or 24 bit, ######Hz)

8. Chose an option that has 96000Hz or lower.

9. Then click Apply

 

For some reason any 6 digit frequency is not allowed in zoom meetings. ALSO, don't forget to change back to the higher frequencies after the bug has been fixed if you prefer.

Seems I found the cause and I have got a solution.
On the weekend, I updated NVIDIA Game Ready Driver. On Monday, I already couldn't join any Zoom meeting or check audio settings. Seems that driver did something bad.
I used free Driver Updater to check what state all audio drivers are and updated them. That fixed the issue with Zoom for me.
Hope it will help others too.🙂

Unfortunately, updating my drivers didn't fix the problem. However, I did lead me to the solution.

Zoom now crashes when your windows mic quality is set to anything above 48kMhz

 

Lowering the audio quality in the windows setting to 48k fixed the problem.
