Zoom is fully functional on my 2021 Macbook Air, but, when I connect to the Dell S2419H monitor, I have no microphone audio: class participants cannot hear me. I've reloaded Zoom, plugged and unplugged, rebooted, retested, and howled at the moon. Apple tech support couldn't resolve it, and my account doesn't qualify for Zoom tech support. Any suggestions anyone?

Hi @kbgressitt I think you may upgrade your macOS version, Sonoma 14.5 is the latest, macOS will mute builtin microphone's sound to keep privacy when lid is closed since MacOS version 14.0[not very sure which version], so I suggest you using another microphone if you want to keep lid closed

Hello @kbgressitt
Welcome to the Zoom Community! We're glad to see you here.
A possible reason is that when you are plugged in to the monitor, it uses a different microphone.
Check your audio once connected and change it to the preferred microphone.

Hi, Mark, and thanks for the swift reply!
I've done everything suggested in the troubleshooting article—and more. My university IT folks couldn't figure it out and referred me to Apple folks, who couldn't figure it out and referred me to Zoom. I should have added that it was all working—the laptop with the monitor—until a couple weeks ago. No new hardware or software; the mic just went silent. . . . Any other suggestions?

hi kbgressitt, sorry to hear that, but I'd like to verify something
1. which microphone are you using in zoom?
2. does the microphone work with other apps? you can test with voiceMemos.app which is a builtin app
3. does it work when you disconnect the Dell S2419H monitor?
4. could you choose another microphone in zoom and test it?
5. what's your macOS version? Make sure DO NOT use builtin microphone when you close your MacBook Air lid, macOS will mute the sound .

I have a similar issue. I use an external microphone running through a Focusrite Scarlett v4 interface. This mic is picked up as expected by the system, and shows input on the system setup. It also provides input as epected to voice recorder app and Logic Pro. It does not, however, successfullly provide input or show up on the indicator in zoom. My laptop mic and airpods pro mic work fine.
I have spent 2 hours on line with 2 different AI chatbots analyzing the problem without resolution. Have gone through long logical procedures and even cleaned up old scraps in the machine code. Have uninstalled Zoom and Focusrite software, removed all traces of them, and reinstalled fresh copies without success. I am now beginning to think Zoom simply does not work with the Focusrite interface, although the rest of my computer does. Here are the specs:
1. MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1
2. Zoom: fresh download/install 1/30/2025
3. Focusrite Control App version: 1.449.0.26180 Firmware 1.2.2188.0
Something is wrong here, and I am sure someone must understand or be able to suggest a fix. Anyone?

Agreed, Something is wrong. It only happens with Zoom no other apps. Google Meet is fine. My quick fix was to remove the Scarlett while on Zoom now that doesn't work any more. I have to restart my whole computer which is really not an option when I have 16 people on my meeting. You all at Zoom need to fix this.

Sean, I'd love your input. I have Zoom 6.3.6, Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.1, and Focusrite Scarlett Solo using Focusrite Control 2 1.449.0.26180 Firmware 1.2.2188.0. I am running an EV RE27 mic into the Scarlett.
I get indicator actions on the system input settings meters as well as on the Focusrite Control 2 meters. I do not get input on Zoom. Zoom does get and display input from laptop mic and wireless heaset mic (Apple Airpods Max).
I have been through every setting repeatedly and patiently, as everyone, including two AI Bots, have started me at the same place - permissions, system setting, Zoom settings, etc. through collectively hours of troubleshooting, without success.
Is this an OS issue, a Zoom issue, a Focusrite issue, or is it unknowable? Can you help? I am very frustrated! Thank you.

Hi @Altb , so sorry to hear about that, but I'd like to get some information first.
1. what's your Focusrite Scarlett model?
2. how many input channel? if input channel are more than 2, try to input 1st or 2nd channel
Then , try different settings in zoom
1. settings--> audio --> Zoom background noise removal --> Low
2. also you can try to use Original sound for musicians , which keeps the original sound without denoise algorithm

Sean - thanks for your comments. I am using a Scarlett Solo. I have tried your suggestions without success. I did find a workaround involving installing blackhole. It enables me to custom route audio, and Zoom does recognize and accept input from it. I am so tired of the exercise that I am content to simply go the with blackhole solution and forget about trying to figure out why Zoom doen't recognize the Scarlett.

I disconnect my Scarlet 2i2. Still had issues. I think it's with the Mac Studio Display. Mac Mini, Mac Display. Sequoia 15.5

Same issue. I have Mac Mini with Mac Display. Seqoia 15.5 current. Focusrite 2i2. I was having issues with Logic inputs as well. I cleared up the Logic Pro issue. Now I believe it's a Mac/Zoom issue. I know how and where to change my inputs and Mic. This last week was a total diaster. Nothing worked. Even my phone option was a no-go. I had to resort to an ipad logged in for a mic. Beware you have to disable all other sounds coming from the Mac or you get the dreaded echo. Total diaster since I lead the meeting.

It's been many months since I had the problem and was working on it, and I do not recall every detail of the whole matter. I do recall that an update to the OS did not fix it.
I can say that I am running a shotgun mic into an Avalon preamp then into a Scarlett Solo then into the Macbook pro. This works. The cause of the problem was, I think, the more mplex routing I was doing, unsing BlackHole, to take the sound through Logic then into Zoom (and other apps). That worked for every application I used it on except Zoom, but I ultimately decided the processing I was doing in Logic was not that important, so I took it out of the system.
Simplifying, I think, was the solution in this case.

I have this same issue. None of the above has resolved it.

Hi @bob36,
Welcome to the Zoom Community! We're glad to have you here.
May I know what device you are using, what operating system, and what microphone?
Just to confirm as well, have you tried the troubleshooting steps in the article?

That sounds frustrating! One thing to check: when you connect your Dell monitor, macOS might be auto-switching the input/output devices. Go to System Settings > Sound > Input and make sure your MacBook’s built-in mic is still selected (not the Dell, which doesn’t have a mic). Also, double-check Zoom's audio settings—sometimes it defaults to a different input when a new device is connected.
