At some point in Chrome I must have selected "always" "Join from Your Browser" because every time I now click on a Zoom link it wants me to join in the browser - and does not give me the option to open the app.

 

I can workaround it, but how do I undo this setting or get the default back.

Likely a caching issue in Chrome, since it is remembering that choice. I would try clearing the cached files for that page and see if that works.
