Dual Device Usage with Zoom

Greetings all! I am contemplating a MacBook Pro purchase after being a Windows-girl forever.  I have heard that it is possible to share my screen on Zoom (on new MacBook) and be able to also integrate my iPad so that both devices show the same screen.  I can then use an apple Pencil to draw and write on the screen so that my students can see it.  Is this a truth?  My iPad is a seventh generation, so about 4 years old.  The Mac would be new.  I would purchase an older Apple Pencil Generation 1 to use.  I am guessing that my elderly iPad would continue on for at least another 2 years or so.  any thoughts? Thank you
