Audio for my tutoring meetings

OFten, the audio does not pick up certain sounds that my student is conveying to me.  and not only certain sounds, but ones that are at the beginning of the word they are providing to me.  It seems to happen with them wearing headphones and when not.  Suggestions for how to adjust things so that I can hear them completely.  This would also go the other way as well....them hearing me clearly.
