Annoying “Beep” sound when toggling mute/video via keyboard shortcuts (Windows 11, Zoom 6.5.12)

Hi everyone,

I’m using Zoom Workspace version 6.5.12 (14128) on Windows 11, and I’ve noticed that every time I toggle my microphone or camera using the keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Shift+A to mute/unmute and Ctrl+Shift+V to start/stop video), I hear the Windows default “Default Beep” sound.

It’s not a Zoom notification sound — it’s clearly the Windows system sound that plays whenever Zoom registers the shortcut.

I’ve checked all settings under Audio, Accessibility, and Notifications & Sounds, but there’s no option to turn this off. Other users have mentioned this issue too after the 6.x update.

Has anyone found a way to disable this sound, or could Zoom please provide a toggle for it in future versions?

Thanks!

As an audio and broadcast engineer I can tell you that computer audio can be very complicated. Alt+A toggles the mic and Alt+V toggles the video. Ctrl+Shift+A is to accept a call and Ctrl+Shift+V is not listed as a Zoom shortcut. So it is not clear exactly what you are doing or how you have personalized your computer. It sounds like you need to turn off Windows system sounds. I have Windows 11 and do not get any beeps when toggling mic or video via shortcuts.

If this works please click accept as a solution.

Nice of you to presume i'm a "did you try switching it on and off" type of user 😁🤡.

As a fellow engineer I know what I am talking about and know windows inside out.

The same thing happens to all of my clients who use windows 10 or 11. It has been nagging me for a long time, I'm just now writing about it. I did change the sound of default beep in windows just to be less annoyed, but it is what it is.

We just discovered this too and we hate it. Right now our solution is to disable the default beep:

system>sound>more sound settings. Scroll down to Default Beep and change it to (None)
