Zoom Phone Assistant not staying on top

A couple months ago I noticed the Zoom Phone Assistant stopped consistently staying on top of other windows. It keeps getting lost behind browser windows making it difficult to see incoming calls, as they do not show in the main app with it enabled. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or have a resolution?

Hello, There.

Yes, I am experiencing the same issue myself. It is a real problem for me considering I am running 18 virtual desktops across two(2) monitors. Although may not be associated with the assistant, I am also seeing that while the assistant is not displaying on top as it once did, when I switch to my Zoom Desktop Client in an attempt to answer the call, there is no indication a call is coming in, although I can hear the ringing/audio of such occurring.

I am also experiencing this and for about the same time frame too. In addition to and may not be associated. However, when this scenario is happening, I am unable to see the incoming call, when I switch to the Desktop Client, although I can hear the incoming audio tone. A real pain to deal with, as I have eighteen(18) virtual desktops open across two(2) monitors.

Welcome to the Zoom Community! We're glad to have you here.

Kindly Check Zoom Phone Settings:

  1. Open Zoom Phone Assistant
  2. Go to Settings (gear icon)
  3. Look for General or Display settings
  4. Enable "Always on top" or "Keep window on top" if available

Let us know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

Hello @MGSR

I have no such settings on the Windows app. As far as I can tell, there are no settings for Zoom Phone Assistant other than turning it on or off and the option to hide it when there is no active call.

I'm also experiencing this with some Zoom users needing the window to be always in the foreground, or portable in the foreground bringing the blue tag from its app widget.
But sometimes and especially after a reboot, the blue tag is in the background, too

I'm also experiencing an issue where the Zoom Phone Assistant no longer consistently stays on top of other windows. Additionally, it doesn't come to the forefront when receiving a call. Instead, I have to sift through all my open applications and windows just to locate the widget.

Here are the details of my setup and troubleshooting steps:

  • Settings > General > Phone > Zoom Assistant is always on top
  • I'm using Zoom V6.6.1 on Windows 11 Pro, fully updated.
  • The Zoom Assistant is enabled both in the desktop app and in the User Management section of the admin profile online.
  • I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Zoom twice using the CleanZoom tool.
  • I’ve signed in and out multiple times and restarted my system repeatedly.
  • I’ve toggled the Zoom Assistant ON/OFF at both the account level and the app level, but the issue persists.
