RTT/TTY

I would really love to see an RTT feature implemented on Zoom phone as a basic accessibility need. It is crucial to be able to make and receive calls as RTT for the system to be accessible to all. I can't find any way to make/receive RTT calls at the moment.

I think what you're looking for is live transcriptions. This is available in Zoom. However, it's only supported in the Zoom app and Zoom Phone appliances (not standard desk phone). To enable this feature, you can enable it per user within the user policy. It's not difficult to find. See below on how to use live transcriptions in the Zoom app.

Oh no I meant Real Time Text/Teletypewriter (RTT/TTY). These are accessibility features where people make phone calls but using software actually communicate using text messages. Live captions are spoken words being converted to captions. In RTT/TTY, you make a phone call and then actually communicate via text. 🙂 It is a great resource for folks with disabilities including those who have speech impediments and/or are HOH. While texts are an asynchronous alternative, RTT/TTY is often still used as a primary accessible method to communicate. You'll often also see dedicated TTY lines and it is often in fact required by gov agencies like the CRTC in many circumstances.

It appears my reply failed to post for some reason. TTY/RTT is actually an accessibility feature for active phone calls rather than functioning as live captions for calls/phones. This feature tends to work during phone calls where you are able to communicate using text during a phone call and is often used by persons with disabilities including the HOH community and people with speech impediments among other things. They're a type of message relay service that can either be done directly or through a relay operator via like 711. Here's an article from NAD: https://www.nad.org/resources/technology/telephone-and-relay-services/tty-and-tty-relay-services/, and one from CRTC: https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/phone/acces/mrsrt.htm
