I Failed to Request a Temporary Number During Porting - How to Request Now?

Hello - I bought the basic unlimited phone service, 1 line. I put in a request for a port of my existing phone number but failed to ask for a temporary number until the port is complete. Is there any way to get a temporary number added without having to purchase a second line while the port is happening?  Thank you.

I'd be caution here if you only have 1 calling license. If you request a second number (temporary or not), you may get rejected since your ported number request is sitting in wait. Maybe ask for a 30 day temporary/demo phone number license to hold you over.

Thank you. The port has been scheduled for Dec 23, and given the slow response of Zoom to most anything, I think I'll just wait for the number to go live.

It’s been a while since I got my Zoom Phone, and I ported numbers over from RingCentral. I was pretty sure I got another number in the process. Check your numbers list to see if there’s one there already:

I also put your question in to the Zoom Virtual Assistant (ZVA – I call her Ziva). Here’s the answer I received. I’m not smart enough to know how accurate it is, but it might be helpful:

 


You can request a temporary phone number from Zoom while your number porting is in progress, and you do not need to purchase a second line for this. Zoom typically provides a temporary number (also called an “interim” or “provisioned” number) upon request so you can use your Zoom Phone service until your ported number becomes active.

To request a temporary number:

  • Contact your Zoom Phone admin or the person managing your Zoom account and ask them to assign a temporary number to your user while the port is pending.
  • If you are the admin, you can assign a temporary number by going to the Zoom web portal, navigating to Phone System Management > Users & Rooms, selecting your user, and assigning an available number.

Once your ported number is active, the temporary number can be removed or reassigned.

Yes, thanks... unfortunately, I did not request a temporary number when initiating the port, and there is no way that I can find to request a temporary number after the fact. I've messaged the port team with no result... it's a week from today that the port will be completed so I'll just have to wait... no serious user impact... they just can't play with their new toy.
