I abhor automatic gesture reactions in Zoom so I've disabled them.
Recently, Zoom started popping up desktop notifications every time I start a new meeting - not traditional desktop notifications but one that hangs off the camera icon in the MacOS taskbar (Sequoia 15.2).
This is horrible. How do I make it stop?
Grr, I would upload an image but this forum isn't letting me.
The notification reads:
Turn On Reactions
"zoom.us" has turned off Reaction effects. Click <camera icon> and select Reactions to add more impact to your gestures.

I also have this issue and cannot figure out how to resolve it.
ā2024-12-16 11:24 AM
Same - this is driving me crazy. I actually have reactions on. I don't really care, but what I do care about is a dumb popup coming up literally every time I start a meeting with no way or directions on how to get it to stop. Worse yet, the little "X" in the corner doesn't even work. you have to click the zoom icon in the menu bar for it to go away.
Come on zoom..you can do better than this.

Edit: Please see my latest reply as this may be fixed for some. https://community.zoom.com/t5/Zoom-Meetings/quot-Turn-On-Reactions-quot-MacOS-desktop-notification/m...
Same as everyone else has said, we need to be able to disable this. How did Zoom not catch this before releasing it? Do y'all use your own software?
ā2024-12-17 07:17 AM
Same issue as everyone else and it's driving me crazy. The "x" to exit out of the pop up doesn't work, and it shows up on every single meeting. š
ā2024-12-17 11:13 AM
Pretty sure this is a Mac problem and not a Zoom problem. I also thought it was zoom, but just had the same thing happen joining a Google Meet call. Not finding a way to turn it off, unfortunately.
ā2024-12-17 01:30 PM
I have this issue too
ā2024-12-18 02:45 PM
Same. This is driving me nuts!! I don't know why, its such a small thing but its every meeting and when you do several meetings all day long its just this thing that gets under your skin.
ā2024-12-18 03:42 PM
Apparently this is a common macOS problem as it also effects Google Meets and other video chat applications. At the same time, this should be vetted by all applications on their respective OSes before release as this is super irritating and a superior application would look to mitigate it over the competition.

Hi everyone! Thank you for your contributions to the Zoom Community. I apologize for my delay in getting to this issue.
Upon reviewing, it appears that this notification is a built-in Mac feature that can be disabled. Below are the steps to turn it off:
On your Mac, choose the Apple menu
> System Settings, then click Notifications
in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click FaceTime on the right, then do one of the following:
Change notifications: Set options, such as the style of notifications or where to show them. To learn about the options, click
in the bottom of the window.
Turn off all notifications from FaceTime: Turn off āAllow notifications.ā
https://support.apple.com/en-ph/guide/facetime/fctmb2a13557/mac
Please confirm if this resolves the issue. Thank you!

Error sill pops up for me even after having turned off Facetime notifications
ā2025-01-02 09:22 AM
I just registered to reply that your solution didn't work, please confirm this on your own machine before replying. it has nothing to do with facetime, as if i open facetime, with or without that reaction setting, it didn't pop up that stupid prompt. I am not saying apple is innocent, but it's very likely you guys use the api in a wrong way.
also whoever make this change shall have a postmortem, it's just very annoying, and reduce my productivity. if i have a choice, i don't want to use zoom anymore because of this.
ā2025-01-02 09:43 AM
Unfortunately that doesn't make any difference. Turned all notifications for FaceTime off, on and even various on/off options and none made a difference. This setting manages "notifications" which come from the upper right corner on Macs...this issue comes from little zoom icon at the top in the menu bar every time you start a meeting. To clarify further, it comes on only after you turn on video...if you join a zoom meeting without video it doesn't pop up, but as soon as you turn on video it pops up. super annoying still.
Someone else mentioned it happening in "all video apps" but for me that is not true. I use Teams and Google Meet and it does not happen with them...only with Zoom.
ā2025-01-03 02:07 PM
This doesn't work. Please let me know if there is another fix. This is VERY annoying.
ā2025-01-07 12:16 PM
It's been over a week since you posted this 'fix' with plenty of feedback that it doesn't fix this issue with the Zoom video notification. Please post an update, hopefully with an actual fix to this very annoying issue.
Thank you.
ā2025-01-13 10:07 AM
This DID work for me. But I had to first change the notifications under FaceTime to "None" AND restart my computer. Now the pop up no longer appears. I am using Sequoia 15.2
ā2025-02-04 02:32 PM
The process you described worked for me. I'm also running Sequoia 15.2. Thank you for your help!
ā2025-01-03 02:11 PM
Having the same issue and it's very frustrating. It only occurs when I am using an Apple built-in webcam, be it either on my MBP, the one in the Studio Display, or my iPhone as a camera. If I use an external non-Apple webcam, it does not happen. I have ensured that all the settings for "meeting reactions" on zoom.us are on, but whether they are on or off, it doesn't matter. The popup still keeps on coming every time I turn on my video.
ā2025-01-06 02:33 PM
In my case, using an external camera doesn't fix the issue.
ā2025-01-07 06:06 AM
same issue for me, on an uptodate 2024 macbook.
ā2025-01-07 09:10 AM
Same issue for me. Terrible. It pops up every time my camera is turned off / on in a meeting. 5-10 times in every meeting. Please fix this. (also I never use reactions, they're a superfluous unnecessary feature)
ā2025-01-07 09:23 AM
So it happens whether I use the built-in camera or an external camera. Every time the camera is engaged by Zoom, the popup appears. Very annoying.

Having the same problem!
ā2025-01-09 12:05 PM
Hey, I resolved this issue. Thought I should share the how.
So...
For me, this started when I applied MacOs updates which installed Sequoia 15.2.
This update also triggered Zoom to update afterward.
I assumed this was a zoom issue, but I'm pretty sure this is a MacOs issue based on the griefing of other internet forums. I verified this by using other applications that utilize my camera and a similar popup came.
How to resolve.
Got to SystemSettings -> Notifications -> Facetime
At the time, I had everything disabled. Makes sense. I don't want prompts or notifications.
I had to enable 'Allow Notifications'
Then set the ?Style? from 'Banners' to 'None'
This is the section that says "Banners appear in the uper-right corner and go away automatically. Alerts stay on screen until dismissed.' There are three little pictures and one of them will be selected having a blue outline.
I restarted my computer and now the prompt no longer comes up at all.
I do not have permission to upload images, but I attempted to upload a screenshot of my MacOs SystemSettings for the Facetime Notifications configuration.
ā2025-01-15 07:45 AM
This worked for me. Interestingly, I set FaceTime notifications back to "Banner" and the Reactions notification didn't reappear.
ā2025-01-15 08:03 AM
This worked for me. Thank you!!
ā2025-01-24 01:12 PM
Thank you soooooo much, this worked for me too. Simply turning off notifications didn't work but this did.
ā2025-01-30 06:08 AM
Just a note that this has fix not worked for me, late Jan 2025. So there must be additional factors that haven't been identified yet.
ā2025-01-10 09:50 AM
Hello everyone,
Our team has confirmed that Apple is aware of this issue and is currently investigating it. As this is outside of the Zoom product, we are unable to provide a timeline for the fix.
Thank you for your patience!
ā2025-01-30 07:14 AM
Something doesn't add up and this confusing communication and buck passing is eroding trust.
`tl;dr` I am no longer experiencing the issue on macOS 15.3 with Zoom 6.2.11 š
I am unable to post images here so I've put them on imgur. In there you can see the following:
* I have all my FaceTime notifications on
* I do not experience this problem with Zoom
* I do experience the problem with Google Meet
My best summation of the issue is that Apple did do something dumb in macOS but Zoom has figured out how to address it and Google Chrome and/or Meet has not.
ā2025-02-05 10:08 AM
Started for me when I upgraded to Sequoia 15.3 and won't go away. Absolute madness! Just upgraded to zoom client 6.3.6 and it is still happening.
