permanent background blur - this app only

Hi!

I'm adding a question to the common running theme of background blur problems. I am operating on a Mac, and have already tried:

  • turning off the background blur - it was never on
  • reinstalling the Zoom app (no change)
  • changing my camera (I am using a webcam, but Zoom does the same thing to the built-in camera)
  • comparing other apps (they do not blur my background, the room is 100% clear)
  • comparing to Zoom on my phone (it has a 100% in-focus background)

There doesn't seem to be an option for submitting a ticket, and the AI bot has gone round in circles. Any suggestions? With curly hair the background blur is quite strange and very noticeably creating a blurred halo around my head 🙂

100% this! Why is it defaulting to a blurry background?

I have the same or a similar issue and have done all that you have.

One thing I have noticed is that when I first start my video from a source, it is fine for a fraction of a second and then the blur occurs. If I switch off my video feed and back on, I get a glimpse of the original video before it goes bad. Also switching feeds does the same thing.

I wonder, do you also experience this 'moment of clarity'?

This post has just solved the issue for me:

TL;DR: Turns out it is MacOS putting on 'Portrait Mode'. Details in above post.
