Zoom Client Doesn't Start

Since the latest update (6.2.3 (2056)) on 2 October, I have been unable to start the Zoom desktop client (no screen that displays any error code; it just doesn't start); I am using the browser client in the meanwhile. I use Manjaro Linux (an Arch variant).

Hi winterreisende! Have you tried restarting your computer after the update? Sometimes a simple reboot can clear up glitches. Also, is the Zoom package in your Manjaro system up-to-date? An outdated package might be causing the issue.

I have indeed tried rebooting; I installed the update on the 2nd, and only used it today, and I rebooted upon use to make sure it wasn't an issue of that manner. I uninstalled and reinstalled the package, to no avail: it is version 6.2.3-1 (2056), as available here: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/zoom

Have you heard of Zoom AI Companion?

When I try to install the package through the website's download center, I find that it has 'pulseaudio-alsa' as a dependency. This is not the case, and has not been the case, for the AUR package, and it has always run well before. I use pipewire, and I am hesitant about messing up this configuration (as would be the case if I were to install pulseaudio-alsa) for this purpose.

The same update (6.2.3 (2056)) will not start in an Arch variant (EndeavourOS) or in OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. No messages when started from terminal  using ZoomLauncher. But, when starting "zoom" on OpenSUSE I see:

Based on the output above, you might want to try an Xorg session rather than Wayland session on OpenSUSE.  (SuSE support of Wayland is good, but still not as mature as Xorg)   (Below assumes you are using the default session of KDE Plasma on Wayland.)

 

Log out of your current desktop session.  When logging back in, first go to the session chooser near the bottom left.  Switch it from 'Plasma Wayland' to 'Plasma on X11'.  Login, and retry the Zoom app.

Reinstalling and rebooting have no effect. This was suggested by tech support, of course.

I'm having a similar issue, although I think it started happening before the last update. Here's what happens:

 

If I boot up my laptop and try running zoom nothing will show on the screen - even though the process is technically running. I tried checking the logs for errors but nothing seemed to have gone wrong. If I retry launching the app and check the logs again it will say that I should close the already running instance of zoom. It's only when I kill the process and launch zoom again that everything works (except screen sharing but I just haven't tried making it work).

 

Not sure why it won't just work from the start and instead I have to launch then kill and then launch again. I'm running Arch Linux and using hyprland. I'll post my logs here (it has the first launch, then two subsequent launches without killing the initial process, and then a final launch after killing the instance - ignore the long 'ok', was trying to separate the logs).

I am suffering this from time to time. Several weeks ago, using `ps aux | grep zoom` in a terminal I realized zoom processes were working, but with no frontend.

 

I found a way to run it, so it shows its frontend. The times it is still happening I'm killing it using `pkill zoom`, and then I'm starting it from the very same terminal just running `zoom & disown`.

 

BTW, I am currently using KDE Plasma 6.2.2 (Wayland Session) and Zoom 6.2.6
