Recorded layout different than during Zoom

I started the Zoom meeting, I shared my screen with the layout where the content is behind me. I recorded local to my computer. When I play the video, it shows the content and me side-by-side with myself extremely small (more like fully content and myself barely visible on the side).

When I did this in a previous Zoom meeting. It recorded exactly the way I was presented during the meeting. Why/How did the layout change for the recording of the current meeting, and is there a way to fix it? (I have the option for "keeping unconverted recording files for troubleshooting" on)

Thank you for any help

I had the same issue in my last presentation. I needed to go to Canva to change the layout in the video and it's not perfect but at least semi decent! I contacted technical support and apparently they are investigating

During the presentation I shared full screen. During the meeting myself and my audience saw the presentation full screen. When I received the recording, the LAYOUT WAS SQUARE !!! Making the presentation screen very small!!! If I watch the video in Youtube on my cell phone it look semi decent but watching it on the computer or TV look ridiculously!!!

I'm paying for the WorkPlace annual subscription and I had this  1st terrible experience! I needed to invest my time to try to fix the layout to uploaded in my channel.

When did ZOOM changed the layouts? and the worst is that under the RECORDINGS settings, there's NO MENTION OF LAYOUT!

I hope they fix it! I'm very disappointed!

Hello there,

I understand how frustrating it can be to expect a certain recording layout and receive something different, especially after a live presentation looked correct for both you and your audience.

Here’s what you need to know about Zoom recording layouts:

  • The layout of your cloud recording depends on the recording settings and the type of content being shared (screen share, speaker view, gallery view, etc.).
  • By default, when you share your screen and record to the cloud, Zoom prioritizes the shared content, but the final layout can appear as a square or with black bars if the aspect ratio of your shared content doesn’t match the recording format.
  • Zoom has not recently changed the fundamental way recording layouts work, but updates and changes can occur. The recording layout is not directly selectable in the recording settings; instead, it’s determined by what you share and your recording configuration.
  • If you want a specific layout (like full-screen shared content), make sure you are sharing your screen (not just a window) and check your cloud recording settings under “Recording Layout” for options like “Record active speaker with shared screen,” “Record gallery view with shared screen,” etc.

To adjust your future recordings:

  1. Go to your Zoom web portal.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Recording.
  3. Under “Cloud recording,” review the available layout options and select the ones that best fit your needs.

Unfortunately, you cannot change the layout of a recording after the meeting has ended. For your current recording, you may need to use video editing software to crop or adjust the video, as you’ve already tried.

If you want more control over the recording layout, consider using local recording, which gives you more flexibility in what is captured.
