Hi everyone,
I’m trying to convert my local recording files (double_click_to_convert_01.zoom, double_click_to_convert_02.zoom) on my Mac, but the conversion keeps failing with the message:
“The application zoom.us can’t open this type of file.”
I’ve already confirmed the following:
The .zoom files exist and are around 2GB, so the data seems intact.
I was a co-host in the meeting, so I had local recording permission.
The files are stored under /Users/[username]/Documents/Zoom/... as usual.
Any official clarification or workaround from Zoom staff would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much!

Hey @Ran6
This is a known issue that can occur on Mac, especially with older versions of the Zoom client or if the conversion process was interrupted (e.g., closing the laptop or power loss). Double-clicking the file is not the reliable method for conversion in recent Zoom versions. Zoom's official recommendation is to attempt to convert the recording manually using the Zoom desktop client's interface.
First, ensure your Zoom desktop client is updated to the latest version. Then, try initiating the conversion from within the app:
Sign in to the Zoom desktop client.
Click the Meetings tab (or Home tab, then Open recordings if you have Zoom Hub enabled).
Click the Recorded tab (or Computer recordings tab in Hub).
Find the meeting topic with your local recording files. If it hasn't converted, you should see a Convert button next to it.
Click the Convert button and wait for the process to complete.
