On April 16, between 2:25 P.M. ET and 4:12 P.M. ET, the domain zoom.us was not available due to a server block by GoDaddy Registry. This block was the result of a communication error between Zoom’s domain registrar, Markmonitor, and GoDaddy Registry, which resulted in GoDaddy Registry mistakenly shutting down zoom.us domain. Zoom, Markmonitor, and GoDaddy worked quickly to identify and remove the block, which restored service to the domain zoom.us. There was no product, security or network failure at Zoom during the outage. GoDaddy and Markmonitor are working together to prevent this from happening again.

How to simply allow client update without requiring updates

I wanted to update my client to the latest version, and found that it wouldn't let me.  There is no "check for updates" option.  Downloading the full installer just launched the existing client and didn't do anything else.  I had to completely uninstall then run the installer.

I see where I can require update to the latest client for people in our org, but I don't really want to do that.  I just want to allow them to update it by "check for updates" or manual download.

What am I missing here?

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @mshaw.

From the Zoom application (I'm running the latest - 5.15.5; yours might look a little different):
