Cannot change audio input on Zoom TV

Zoom Workplace on my Sony Android smart TV offers a selection of microphone inputs in Settings. No matter what microphone input I choose, Zoom uses the microphone built into the USB webcam.

I'd like to use a better sounding source such as a mic + preamp plugged into the TV analog input or the microphone in my Bluetooth headphones connected to the TV.

I tried using a different webcam without a microphone and could not get audio input to work at all.

Appreciate your suggestions.

Since you never gave the specific model it is not possible to give a valid response for the TV. However, most "Smart" TVs are not designed to work well with external hardware outside of the HDMI cable and built-in hardware. You may find a more stable and versatile solution by using the TV as a display connected to a computer. Then connect video and audio inputs to the computer.

Thanks for your reply. The TV model is Sony Bravia 4K VH2. I understand that a computer connected to the TV will be more robust and afford connecting other mics. I was hoping to avoid the complexity of another computer. Is there a way to send audio to the TV over HDMI?

The computer can send audio over the HDMI. You just need to select the TV as your speaker. Many computers will do this automatically when the HDMI is connected.

VH2 is a series of TVs not the model number. Check the manual or product sticker on the back of the TV for the specific model number. Please check again for the actual model number.

However, when using a computer you will be using the webcam connected to the computer, the Zoom client software installed on the computer and any audio inputs attached to the computer.

This TV model does not have ANY analog audio inputs,

So if you want to get away from the mic in the webcam (which is highly recommended) there are a number of choices.

1, You can connect a computer to the TV for display and speakers. Connect the webcam to the computer. Use a USB audio interface such as Focusrite or Zoom (equipment not the software) to connect any pro audio mics. Be sure to connect the computer to the network via ethernet.

2. Use chromecast or airplay to connect a phone. As long as the device is close to your mouth (about 6-10 inches) you will get decent audio. The camera will be the 2 cameras on the phone, which allows for show and tell as well as just a shot of the face. As long as the room is quiet you can turn on original audio for better voice quality.

3. You might try using the second TV USB port to connect an audio interface to see if the TVs Zoom app will recognize the device.

Let me know if any of this works for you.
