Auto-open Google Calendar

Hi all,

Prior to Zoom Workplace, I had the "Export -> use an external calendar -> Google" setting on by default. This meant whenever I scheduled a new meeting in the Zoom desktop client, it would automatically open Google Calendar, allowing me to add notes or links to the meeting details, add/change participants in Google Calendar (preferable to using the Zoom client, since Google Calendar does an autocomplete for participant names).

Anyway, I can't seem to work out how to re-enable the"Export -> use an external calendar -> Google" to be the default setting for all scheduled meetings. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance

I am also having the same problem and would appreciate a solution if anyone knows how to fix this!

This is exactly the same problem that I'm having.  Every time I schedule a meeting I have to check the export calendar box.  It used to default automatically.  Can anyone help???  Thank you!

OP here.

Just to let everyone know, I opened a support ticket with Zoom one month ago. Despite numerous back-and-forth messages Zoom have consistently failed to understand the issue.

We had the feature. Now, with Zoom Workplace, we no longer have the feature. Zoom are trying to say that it's no longer needed. Clearly the people in charge of Zoom support don't use the product.

To say I'm frustrated, exhausted, and fed-up would be an understatement. I'm going to give it another couple of weeks before I will have no other option but to cancel my subscription and move to an alternative solution - hopefully from a provider with a better support department.

Yes exact same issue here. Is there any news?
With the new version the zoom invite does not open up a window with G calendar which I use to add my google contacts to the meeting. I am not able to get automatic pre-fill of participants in the Zoom desktop app, even after importing all my google contacts. I am currently deselecting the option to 'try new version', so that the Google Calendar window still pops-up. But I hope to see the change in the new version too.

See my update in this thread. I battled with Zoom support for 2 months, without them even acknowledging the issue compared to the feature we had with the previous version.

Zoom doesn't care. Don't expect a fix.

Thanks for the response.. Very frustrating indeed 😒

Unfortunately the export to google calendar by default has been deprecated within the Zoom client. You could try scheduling the meetings from your email calendar directly. There is also a Zoom app, Salepager, that lets you schedule Zoom meetings, add attendees (auto-filling participant names), add notes and links for the meeting details and share google calendar compatible invitations.

Thanks for the heads-up re Salepager.

However, Salepager pricing starts from $19/month - for a feature I was getting from Zoom as part of my subscription.

Hello @KEXINO

You are somewhat correct. Zoom support does not use the feature this way. Zoom employees used to be all Google calendaring, so we would create an event ( add topic, date, time, recurrence), > click on make it a Zoom meeting (which is an API integration with Google Calendar that still exists today)

> Then add participants' names (internal contacts) or email addresses (external contacts); I will make a short video of what this looks like, and you all can let me know if I am close or missing the point completely.

@YaBoiB at least for me, you're coming at this from the wrong direction.

For me scheduling a Zoom call starts in the Zoom desktop client - not in Google Calendar.

Once the details have been added, I need to click the "More Options" link:

This opens a new window, which I need to scroll down and click the "Use an external calendar" checkbox:

Once this is checked and I hit "Save", when Zoom hands everything off to Google Calendar.

Google Calendar then automatically opens the "New Event" window.
• I can add guest email addresses that auto-populate from my Google contacts.
• I can add notes, change notification settings, etc. (which will always be done in Google Calendar because I'm never going to do that in the Zoom client).

• Once I'm happy I can send the Google Calendar invite to the list of guests invited for the call. And all is well.

Before "Zoom Workplace" there was an option to have the "Use an external calendar" checkbox in the Zoom desktop client activated by default.

That option has been taken away. Now, every single time I schedule a Zoom call I need to remember to click the "More Options" link, scroll down in the new window that appears, and click the "Use an external calendar" checkbox.

I had a workflow that worked and that was pretty much bombproof. Now that's gone. Zoom doesn't give a stuff because they don't understand (or don't want to understand) and expects me to change my workflow for a feature they decided to remove without warning or notification to their users.

By the way, I don't give a stuff how Zoom employees use a particular feature or application. I was under the impression that Zoom was made for users, not for Zoom employees.

This is insane. I have called a few tech support people who don't understand the issue. I did find a workaround where I need to click USE EXTERNAL Calendar each  time but that is not a good option.

I am calling zoom now to cancel my contract, refund me any money and move to TEAMS.

I liked zoom better but if they cant play nice with Outlook, google email which 85% of the world uses, then I can go to Teams which I already have in my 365 package! I will save money and screw ZOOM.

Their tech support blows!
