Hello.
I am an interpreter who has worked on Zoom very frequently in the past four years. Recently, I have noticed that the original sound from the floor can be heard in the background when listening to my colleagues' relays.
Let's say the original sound is Japanese, and I am listening to my colleague's English. Although my colleague's voice is louder than the original sound, I can still hear it in the background, which is extremely distracting.
Other interpreters have told me that they have the same issue. So, I can safely say that it isn't a problem with my headset (Plantronics Blackwire 8225).
Is there an audio setting I can enable to prevent this situation?
I really appreciate any help you can provide.

@Diéresis - Per the support article, this is by design. The thinking is that it is important to also hear the tone and cadence of the original speaker.

@pedro_klien - There is now an option when selecting to hear an interpreter to "Mute Original Audio" so you only hear the interpreter, but it has to be selected by the participant for each call when selecting the interpreter.

If the host enables this muting of original audio would it be applied to the cloud recording of all translation channels?

@pedro_klien - If the user records locally, it will only record what they are hearing. I am not sure when recording to the cloud, but I expect it will record at 80% and include the original audio since that is the default, but you should test in your own environment to verify.

Can anyone please confirm that in relay interpretation there is no way to "only hear the colleague" and not the original? Meaning there will always be this "bleeding" effect in relay?

Hello, I had the same issue today. I've been interpreting in Zoom since 2020, I have done multiple relay assignments, I always update my Zoom but today it was a disaster when I heard two languages (original and translation) both at the same time. I was unable to proceed with translation into my language (Georgian by the way). I would appreciate is someone could suggest a solution to this, thank you

@TamarNepharidze - this sounds like s slightly different issue in that you are hearing 2 others simultaneously when you are the interpreter where others are talking about hearing the original speaker and their interpreter at the same time. Personally, it sounds like your host wasn't using Interpretation correctly, and they had the other interpreter speaking directly into the meeting instead of being on their own interpreter channel. I would suggest you open a support case, however, since someone would have to look at the specific meeting on the back end to verify why you were hearing both.
