Zoom app not detecting any microphone - but all other apps access the mic okay

Hi there,

My zoom app is not detecting microphones - this includes my built-in laptop microphone, and also my headphone microphone when I test with my microphones. I'm using Windows 11. My microphone works perfectly in my Sound Settings, and on Teams calls.

Error message on Zoom "Failed to detect your microphone. Please make sure your microphone is properly connected."

I have tried so many steps online - including:
- rebooting the PC
- re-installing the Zoom app (now have the Zoom Workplace app version 6.1.11 (45504) installed)
- checking for driver updates on device manager
- checking for Windows updates (including optional updates)
- playing with the Audio settings in Zoom - including the Advanced Audio settings
- in Privacy Settings, ensuring the Zoom app has access to the Microphone
- going to the Microphone settings and unchecking 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device'
- run the Sound troubleshooter - didn't find any issues
- tried plugging in a headset - still says it cannot detect the microphone. The strange thing is when I click on the little up-arrow next to Audio to see the 'Select a Microphone' options - both the built-in laptop microphone and headset microphone are there as options - but when i select either, the same error appears

This is driving me crazy!

It's 01 Jan 2025 and I too am facing the same issue for my MacBook Pro.

When I started my early morning zoom meeting - everything was working perfectly untill I tried to put the video on and then a series of pop up messages came through from the app - saying versions of

"unable to detect microphone" "zoom is unable to detect speaker""

however when I leave computer audio and rejoin it does not work

I tested speakers and mic on zoom - both passed the tests

I made sure and checked my input, output in my apple audio settings were appropriately aligned

I restarted the macbook pro 13 inch 2019 model

Software : MacOs Sequoia Version 15.1.1 (24B91)

installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the zoom app (this posed its own issues as the link on the zoom site may not be the most upto date version)

I logged out and looged in using another zoom account and yet the same pop up comes on upon attempting to put on the video which is unable to access microphone/speaker)

In addition it says my default speaker and microphone have changed but I changed that too and it did not solve anything. Luckily I have another computer that I am successfully able to log in with - but this is highly confusing and frustrating - please Help!
