Unable to turn on closed captions on iMac

While I am able to see closed captions in some meetings, I am unable to turn them on in other meetings. I have gone to Accessibility in Settings, but  CC simply would not appear at the bottom of the screen. They did not turn on when the other member present initiated the call, nor when I initiated the call. I did get as far as seeing the sample of a caption, and I turned on "enable." I hope someone can guide me to a solution.

@drcherald Captions should only be visible, if you turn them on yourself. You can toggle their visibility by hitting the CC "Show Captions" button.

I have same issue: When I start a new meeting and try to enable Live transcription (by clicking on the "enable" button), it does nothing. I checked in my advanced meeting settings and Transcription is enabled. I suspect this is a bug. I am using Version: 6.4.1 (51520)

Thank you for replying. I did finally solve the problem, but now I don't remember how! I just keep trying and trying. The quality of the CC's is not great, but it's better than nothing.

Can someone help? I want to use closed caption without requesting permission to the host. Is there a way maybe using a third party closed caption provider?

I have the opposite problem: I can find no way to turn the very distracting closed captions off on my iMac. Any idea what to do?
