I have changed my settings so that the chime doesn't play when someone enters a meeting that I'm hosting, which is great.
However, I'm the co-host of a weekly meeting and have to manually turn off the chime every time the meeting starts. Is there somewhere in my settings that I'm overlooking so I don't have to do this weekly during the meeting?
Thanks!

Hi emilyf,
You’re running into the difference between host settings and individual meeting settings. Let me explain and show you how to make it stick.
Host vs Co-Host Settings:
Zoom distinguishes between the host and co-host.
Many settings, like “Play sound when participants join/leave,” are host-level or meeting-level defaults.
As a co-host, you inherit the meeting settings from the host, not from your personal defaults.
Recurring Meetings:
Even if the meeting is recurring, the co-host cannot change the saved default for that recurring meeting — only the host can change the setting permanently.
So if you’re not the host, any changes you make during the meeting (like turning off the chime) reset each time.
Profile-Level Settings Only Affect Meetings You Host:
Your personal Zoom settings (Profile → Settings → In Meeting (Basic)) only apply when you are the host of a meeting.
Being a co-host does not apply your personal defaults.
How to Stop the Chime Permanently as a Co-Host
Option 1: Have the Host Change the Meeting Setting
Note: Now, when the co-host joins, Zoom uses the meeting’s saved settings — no need to manually mute the chime each week. Even if you are a co-host, you cannot save this change for all future instances; it must be done by the host.
Option 2: Make Yourself the Host for the Recurring Meeting
Option 3: Schedule a New Meeting Under Your Account

Hi Bob,
Thanks for replying.
I do not want to be the host for the recurring meeting. I'm just there as backup in case the host can't join. The host doesn't want to change their settings.
So, there is no way that I can turn the chime off permanently. I have to do it manually every meeting. Is this something Zoom is looking into?
Thanks.
