Slow to join meetings and enter/exit breakout rooms since recent update

My Zoom app updated itself a few weeks back (I'm now on Version: 5.16.5 (24296)) and, ever since, it's been taking me ages to join meetings and to go into/come back out of breakout rooms. This is really frustrating as it means I miss chunks of the online language class I'm doing. I've tried deleting and re-installing the app but it's made zero difference. It's a disgrace considering the previous version worked fine.
