Record presentation and speaker side-by-side

I am trying to record a presentation with a speaker shown in a thumbnail, same as what's shown in this how to article for 'Shared content with active speaker'.

I used to be able to do it but lost the control setup I guess.  Instead, I get a thumbnail on top of the presentation, but I'd like the speaker to be off to the side. 

In my account under Settings >> Recordings, I have all the recommended settings from the article checked.  There are some settings in the Share Screen panel when you open it, but I can't find a description of what they do.  Perhaps one of them adjusts what's seen for the recording?

If you scroll down that article a little further, you can make sure your recording has "Share with participants video next to shared content:" enabled which should allow you to have the thumbnail off to the side.
