Dual Screen How to stop 'Zoom' Window Switching Monitors During Screen Share

I have an issue with a dual monitor setup, where when I share the entire desktop the zoom window jumps and takes over the other monitor, going on top of all the media controls we use, even with the zoom setting to share zoom windows selected.

Here is a rough breakdown of the setup we're using to give a better context:

Monitor 1, which is for the operator/ producer:
Zoom Meeting Window to view all participants
VLC Playlist Controls

Monitor 2, which is at the front of the room has:
Zoom, for showing remote participants as and when needed
VLC Media Window

As the screen share isn't needed the whole time, it is only needed when sharing media through VLC we can't leave the screen share running constantly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I concur with your sequences… additionally if this is happening during the meeting, restarting zoom seems to fix the problem. I will say we haven’t had the issue for. 2-3 months, I notice both zoom and JWlib both have new updates so it’s challenging to figure out who’s “at fault”

Hi,
This is what has helped us....has not stopped the issue 100% but has reduced how much it happens. This is a Zoom issue seems to be the concensus.
We leave Use Dual Monitors checked.....Before the meeting starts we make sure the 2nd Zoom screen(the one showing the stage and participants) is on the TV's and is maximized. Then in the Taskbar I put my cursor over that 2nd screen thumbnail and when the small preview window appears I slide my cursor up in the preview, right click to get the menu and left click on minimize. The 2nd screen gets pulled back to the Taskbar of the PC monitor. Leave it there until it is time to show that 2nd screen for someone giving a talk on Zoom. When its time for a part over Zoom I remove the spotlight for the stage and I reverse what I did earlier.....slide my cursor over the thumbnail again, slide it onto the preview window, right click to get the menu and left click on Maximize. When that part is over minimize the window again, put stage spotlight on again and click on thumbnail for Year Text.
Now when Zoom decides to take over the 2nd screen, which usually happens during a song, it only shows a black screen and we just quickly click on the JWL thumbnail to bring it back.
With a little practice it can be done very smoothly.

The best solution I found so far is to make sure you never share the projected zoom display (on monitor 2, with the speaker) to zoom.  Display the image you want to share first then share. The image will disappear, you have to reselect it hovering over the JW app selecting the second screen. But then it displays and shares properly. And when you want to go back to the speaker, stop sharing first. The second zoom screen will then pop back to the second monitor (it effectively “got out of the way” temporarily, as others have mentioned).

We have not found any solutions so far. We have tried many of the sugested solutions above, but so far non has helped us. With every update it gets worse😅 

It is comforting to know that we are not alone in this struggle. 

Actually, sometimes  we do not share everything, like pictures that the participants on zoom can see in their own publications. That way the meeting does not "pause" too many times.

In addition, I've found that I'm not allowed to share the Zoom window in Zoom; that's when it also breaks and only turning Zoom off completely will help, which is therefore not ideal. 🙂

And it still crashes when I share the screen and open Participants, it crashes then too.

Ah, that "display connection might be limited" message... it's like your computer's trying to tell you something's not quite right with your screen setup, but it's being super vague about it. It's a classic Windows head-scratcher, especially when you're just trying to get a clear picture.

Basically, that message usually means something's interfering with the communication between your computer and your monitor. It could be a bunch of different things, from a simple cable issue to more complex driver problems.

First off, let's talk cables. Are you using a good quality cable? Sometimes, cheap or damaged cables can cause all sorts of display problems. Try swapping out your HDMI or DisplayPort cable with a different one, just to rule out a cable issue. And while you're at it, make sure the cable is securely plugged into both your computer and your monitor. A loose connection can definitely cause that "limited" message.

Then, there's the whole resolution and refresh rate thing. Windows can sometimes get confused about what your monitor can actually handle. Go into your display settings (right-click on your desktop and choose "Display settings") and double-check that the resolution and refresh rate are set to the recommended values for your monitor. If you're not sure, try lowering them slightly and see if that makes a difference.

Now, let's talk drivers. Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers are a common culprit for display problems. Go into Device Manager (search for it in the Start menu) and look for your display adapters. Right-click on your graphics card and try updating the driver. You can also try uninstalling the driver and restarting your computer, which will force Windows to reinstall it. And of course, check the website of your graphic card's manufacturer for the latest driver.

Also, just in case, have you recently installed any new software or hardware? Sometimes, new software can mess with your display settings, especially if it's something that messes with display drivers.
