Desktop sharing quality

Hi,

I have noticed in the Zoom API that it reports the screen sharing quality as poor for a few calls where there was screen sharing involved. Curious to know what is the logic used to determine the quality as poor or good?

How Zoom Determines Quality (Poor, Fair, Good)

  • Good: Minimal packet loss, low latency, stable jitter, and sufficient bandwidth, resulting in smooth and clear screen sharing.
  • Fair: Moderate packet loss, slightly higher latency, minor jitter, and potentially lower bandwidth than optimal, leading to occasional minor disruptions.
  • Poor: High packet loss, high latency, unstable jitter, insufficient bandwidth, or any combination of these factors, resulting in a choppy, delayed, or pixelated screen-sharing experience.

Improving Screen Sharing Quality

If you're noticing poor screen-sharing quality in your calls, consider the following steps:

  1. Optimize Network Performance: Ensure a stable and high-speed internet connection for both hosts and participants.
  2. Reduce Network Load: Close unnecessary applications or devices that might be consuming bandwidth.
  3. Update Zoom Client: Ensure everyone is using the latest version of the Zoom client, which might contain optimizations and improvements.
  4. Check Zoom Settings: Adjust screen-sharing settings to balance quality and bandwidth usage.
