Automatically Save Closed Caption Transcript

lcvachta

The Auto-Generated Closed captions are a very useful tool on meetings, and I know that we have the ability to save the transcripts. I would like to see an option to automatically save the transcript of meetings, differentiated based on whether I am a participant or host. Or at least a prompt. As it currently stands if I forget to save the transcript before I leave a meeting there is no way to recover it.

>my assumption that Zoom is withholding autosave to help push AI—an actual compliance problem—onto everyone.

Good point, very good point. Totally checks out.  Zoom is pushing AI on the userbase as if its future depended on it. I'm sure the ability to even let the user save a transcript - at all - was only begrudgingly implemented. Keep all of the customer's data away from the customer and force them into your AI solution.

This is not a product for me.

Hello,

 I do not think that you are accurate, but you are indeed entitled to that opinion. If you ever met Mr Yuan, you would realize that he is all about people, all about his customers. But, making a user base of millions is not always going to make every user happy; we (Zoom) manage that daily. That is what this is about, in my humble opinion. Still, as I mentioned, the team is exploring ways to improve this for you without compromising any compliance or regulatory policies. I can state that publicly.

Hello @mvieve and everyone else in this thread,

 You are absolutely entitled to your assumption, and I do not know the answer to that. That is outside of my paygrade. I am merely a liason between Zoom customers and the developers. I ask the questions, they (Devs) provide me with answers, I provide you with those answers. I wish that I had better news for you all, but I can tell you that in my conversations (Zoom chat) with the devs, they are looking into this for us. So, that is a good sign, and they are privvy to this thread so they can absolutely "hear" your voices through text.

I wanted to make sure that everyone knows that I am still working with the team and I will report back if I have "any" new information surrounding this topic.

Thank for the update, Brandon!

Thank you, Brandon - I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate your position, your openness, and your responsiveness.

Brandon, Thank you for your advocacy on our behalf. AS I'vde given more thought to how I'd like the feature to work, I've revised my proposal several times. I'd appreciate you ensuring that the developers have seen the latest version, listed here.

Zoom Transcript and Chat enhancement suggestions (Rev. 3)

In a meeting which is configured so that ordinary participants can see and save the transcript, when a participant clicks the "Save Transcript" button, he should be presented with six checkboxes labeled as

* Save now
* Save every <number> minutes
(where <number> is an integer entry field accepting values from 1 to 999)
* If the connection gets broken, save the transcript
* When Zoom is restarted after a crash, save as much of the transcript as possible
* Save when I leave the meeting or quit out of Zoom
* Save when the meeting ends

(where all possible combinations of the checkboxes are permissible)

and a button (labeled something like "Save" or "Submit" or "Do It", etc.) which will record and implement the selections made with the checkboxes.

Similarly, in a meeting which is configured so that ordinary participants can see and save the chat, when a participant makes the "Save Chat" selection, he should be presented with seven checkboxes labeled as

* Save now
* Save every <number> minutes
(where <number> is an integer entry field accepting values from 1 to 999)
* Save every time a chat entry is made or edited
* If the connection gets broken, save the chat
* When Zoom is restarted after a crash, save as much of the chat as possible
* Save when I leave the meeting or quit out of Zoom
* Save when the meeting ends

(where all possible combinations of the checkboxes are permissible)

and a button (labeled something like "Save" or "Submit" or "Do It", etc.) which will record and implement the selections made with the checkboxes.

Similar request here for autosave of the transcript. It's a less intrusive way of capturing the conversation and remaining present during meetings. I use the transcript to summarize notes and action items for calls. This has become a vital tool for me. Removing the pressure of manually hitting that save button to capture the transcript - or losing it altogether if I'm disconnected unexpectedly - would deliver huge peace of mind and help with my AI-assisted workflow to keep the team aligned.

Google Meet handles this concern about legality by posting this statement below, just fyi. I suppose when you record, people will know that. People should know if you are keeping a transcript. However you can do it--you just have to press save yourself.

How about for hosts only?

Please allow the host of a meeting to enable auto-save the transcription just like we auto-save chat!

Thank you.

Workaround:

  1. Open Transcripts
  2. Select Download

This option is available even if the meeting was accidentally closed without saving the transcript.

Is it possible to share a bit more about the situation and why this request has not been implemented for hosts? Is it being considered? Is it on the roadmap?

@YaBoiB Do you by any chance have any update from the product team? I've appreciated reading your patient questions and conscientious replies.

@DavidMR Have you heard anything from your version of a request ? Is there a link to your request that others can +1 to?

This is beyond me why this auto-save feature isn't available. I've lost transcript a couple of times now (forgot to save before leaving the meeting!) and this is hugely frustrating! I interview people for product improvements and then use transcripts to put a document together - transcripts are key in this process.

It is a lame excuse imo to say that there are regulations and legal concerns or whatever is Zoom's excuse, as main competitors have this feature and no concerns from there side. Really, it's just embarrassing for Zoom not to have such a basic feature. Sorry, very frustrated!

I totally just got burned 🔥 by this. I had never done it before.

After taking a look at this thread, I 100% agree there should be options to save at a time increment or when the meeting ends.

However, until that is available, just clicking the "Save Transcript" button is super quick and easy. It creates a new text document the first time and then overwrites the file each time you click it with the transcript updated to that point in time.

So basically, you can click it obsessively throughout the meeting in the hope that you capture as much as you can, without worrying about it creating a bunch of files that you don't need.

Has there been any resolution?  I have this same issue.  If I forget to hit save then everything is lost. My company has locked recordings so I can only use transcripts.

Wow, there is a lot of passion here for the small but mighty transcript. I'm adding my voice as an advocate for an automated way for hosts/co-hosts to save the transcript without recording to the cloud.

Our use case: A member of our account is embarking on a research project with clinical patients. They can't record the meetings or use AIC summaries for compliance reasons, but they can use the transcript. They take the raw transcript and code it for qualitative research. This is a longstanding research practice: interview subjects, transcribe the interview, code the conversation to turn the spoken words into data.

An auto-save feature for transcripts is absolutely necessary. It is unacceptable that this is still outstanding over 2.5 years after the initial request above.
