I use Zoom AI all the time. I was showing a new employee this feature and opened our just completed meeting summary to show it to her. It was complete and detailed. She was impressed. I went back later today to access it and it says "A summary was not generated due to insufficient transcript.". WTW?

Hi @TorUber - Hope you're having a great day!
It sounds like you encountered a temporary data or sync issue with Zoom AI Companion’s meeting summary feature. Here’s what likely happened and what you can do:
Temporary AI Summary Cache:
When you first viewed the summary, it was generated and cached in Zoom’s AI Companion workspace. Later, if the cached data expired or the transcript file was reprocessed, the system may have lost the link between the transcript and the summary.
Transcript Processing Delay or Error:
The message “A summary was not generated due to insufficient transcript” appears when the meeting transcript file is missing, corrupted, or still being processed. Even if the summary was initially visible, a later sync or storage update can cause the transcript reference to fail.
Recording or Transcript Deletion:
If the meeting recording or transcript was deleted, moved, or renamed (for example, by an admin or automated retention policy), the AI summary can no longer display because it depends on that transcript file.
AI Companion Reprocessing:
Occasionally, Zoom’s AI Companion reprocesses summaries for quality or compliance reasons. If the transcript doesn’t meet the minimum length or clarity threshold during reprocessing, the summary may be removed.
Check the Cloud Recording tab:
Go to Recordings → Cloud Recordings → Files and confirm that the Audio Transcript (VTT) file still exists. If it’s missing, that’s why the summary disappeared.
Verify AI Companion settings:
Ensure AI Companion → Meeting Summary is still enabled for your account or group. If your admin recently changed settings, summaries may no longer regenerate.
Look in Zoom web portal → AI Companion → Summaries:
Sometimes the summary is still accessible there even if the meeting link shows an error.
Contact Zoom Support:
Provide the Meeting ID and approximate time. Support can check whether the transcript file was purged or if the summary can be restored from backup.
To prevent this in the future, download or copy important AI summaries soon after they’re generated. The AI summary is tied to the transcript file, so keeping a local copy ensures you don’t lose it if the transcript is reprocessed or deleted. If you confirm the transcript file is still present but the summary vanished, it’s almost certainly a back-end sync issue—Zoom Support can usually restore it quickly once they verify the meeting data.
Hope this helps!
