Annotation pencil defaults to the largest size taking up the whole screen

While in meeting with colleagues I will use the annotation tool to markup drawings and the pencil defaults to the largest size that takes up the entire window. I manually minimize it every time, but it takes a while to minimize to the smallest size from the largest. I do not use any key shortcuts while using Zoom. It has been time consuming and a little embarrassing to have happen in my meetings with clients.
