When sharing a screen, the participant can't use the mouse

I have an issue with one user that when they share a screen during a meeting the participant can't control the screen; the mouse will move but mouse clicks don't work.

It works fine from my machine, with my account and theirs, but I can duplicate on multiple machines

It does work on their account/machine when sharing the system, but not the screen.

Thoughts?

If participants can't use their mouse while you're sharing your screen in Zoom, the most likely issue is that they are in a view that doesn't allow mouse control, or they haven't been granted remote control permissions. The participant should first try clicking on the screen or opening the "View Options" menu to look for a "Request Remote Control" option to give them control of your mouse. If that doesn't work, the presenter may need to check their Zoom settings to ensure application sharing is not preventing mouse actions, or that there's no annotation tool active, and try restarting the meeting.

For the Participant:

  • Click within the shared screen to start controlling it.
  • Locate the "View Options" menu at the top of your meeting window.

  • Select "Request Remote Control" from the dropdown menu.
  • Click "Request" when prompted to confirm.
  • If the option isn't available, the presenter may need to grant control from their side.
  •

For the Presenter (You):

  1. Ensure mouse and annotation features are not interfering. Sometimes, being stuck in a specific annotation view can prevent mouse control.
  2. Check your screen sharing settings in the Zoom app.
    • Go to Settings > Share Screen.
    • Ensure the Screen Capturing Mode is set to Auto.
    • Check that "Share selected app window only" is unchecked if you are sharing an application.
  3. Restart the meeting: Sometimes, a simple restart of the meeting can resolve temporary glitches.
  4. Check for updates: Ensure your Zoom application is updated to the latest version.

It sounds like the issue is tied specifically to the screen sharing mode rather than account or machine settings, since control works fine when sharing the whole system but not when sharing just the screen. That usually points to a limitation in how the platform handles input capture when only a screen (instead of the entire desktop/system) is shared.

A couple of things to check:

  • Confirm that the affected user has granted full accessibility/remote control permissions to the meeting app (especially on macOS, where screen recording vs. accessibility permissions are separate).

  • Test both “share screen” vs. “share window” to see if the behavior differs.

  • Make sure the app is updated on both ends.

  • If it’s reproducible across machines/accounts, it may be a known limitation or bug with the software when in “screen only” mode.

The issue was related to the user account.

Recreated the user profile and Zoom then worked
