Switching to Waiting Room from Password

RainbowRoomZoom

I'm the Zoom coordinator for a recovery group that is switching to a Waiting Room from a Password. Our account is currently configured using the "Claim Host" feature instead of requiring 30+ volunteers to log into the group's account. (That's a GREAT feature, by the way!)

If we change to the Waiting Room, will each volunteer hosts have to log into (and remember to log out of) the group's Zoom account? instead of using the "Claim Host" feature?

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide. I'm trying to understand this use case fully before making the change -- and understanding the amount of education/training will be necessary to prepare the volunteers.

Hi RainbowRoomZoom,

In order to see the "Claim host" option, the meeting needs to be live. If you have "Allow participants to join anytime", then the first person who clicks the link gets the meeting started and someone from your group can then claim host. However, if you use the Waiting Room, this overrides the "Allow participants to join anytime" option, meaning the meeting will need to be started by the host.

Hope this helps!

Hi Paul,

The "Claim Host" feature is dependent on having "join before host" enabled on the Meeting, so that a Participant can join without there being a host at first.

Having a Waiting Room (set in advance) is not compatible with "join before host" - because a Host is needed to admit Participants from the Waiting Room. You cannot claim host from a Waiting Room. As far as I know.

What you could do is move to using a Meeting passcode for your volunteers, still use use Claim Host, but do NOT set a Waiting Room in advance - have your volunteers join the meeting (early), Claim Host, and THEN enable Waiting Room from within the Security Settings of the meeting.

Or, if you could set your volunteers up with Basic logins on the same Zoom account, you could set up Waiting Room for "external" Participants only - meaning your volunteers could skip the Waiting Room.

Hope this helps.
