my zoom used to save my professional audio settings, and whenever I would log in I would have to do nothing.
for the past few months, I now have to switch the setting to on, as it defaults to off.
I have a lot of technically challenged students who I have to talk through this process every time and they find it daunting.
Why is this now the default setting? Is there a way of changing this.
thanks
Katy

I don't recall the exact update that changed this, although I do recall that it was the one that started calling it "Original Sound for Musicians". During that update they removed the ability to have Original Sound ON when connected to a specific microphone.
I and many folks that I know are missing this feature.

Version 5.11 worked perfectly then in 5.12 they screwed it up. Zoom will not listen to customers.
Biggest error ever.

Absolutely agree Katy, there's many community threads on this subject. I'll mirror your request to Zoom...
Thanks to Zoom, for adding "Original Sound for Musicians", but...
***It used to be a Default setting, now for every new session it has to be manually turned on by me and my students 3-4 times a day.
PLEASE bring back the Default setting (automatically on all the time) for "Original Sound for Musicians"!
Thanks, Chris

Please bring back the default setting for " Original sound for Musicians " We have to turn it on for every Zoom , many different staff members, and often forget to do this ending in poor quality Zoom recording.
Thanks Tracey

In regards to this very popular request for a feature we used to have and now do not, Andy Carluccio, Events Engineering Manager at Zoom responds with a pretty thorough explanation of why it happened.

The clip is helpful but many users (from what I see in this community) are like us and we need it on for EVERY meeting because there is music in every meeting. Given the bazillion settings that can be customized, the omission of this one seems odd.

I neglected to say that we are a church. We have non-professionals running Zoom for our services. The tech team tries to minimize opportunities for mistakes during our services. The change of this setting has already generated complaints.

Re: his explanation, I am one of the pro users teaching guitar lessons every day with an audio interface, headset, direct guitar sound etc. Sounds like he's saying they won't reinstate the default "original sound for musicians" due to the fact that most people don't have a pro setup???

The explanation on why the Original Sound ON is not default anymore wasn't very clear - even if trying to protect the company humbly. It didn't make sense. So....What is and how to install the MSI integration. Do you have to upgrade from PRO account and pay more money? How do WE get that default setting back on ON - Zoom seems to go backwards in quality in so many levels? Suppose to be a friendly daily companion.

We're asking for Zoom to make available the OPTION for SOME USERS to make Original Sound the Default, AS IT WAS BEFORE the UPDATE! We're NOT asking to make Original Sound the Default for all users! Ignoring this point [as the clip above does] just muddies the entire discussion! ZOOM: YOU'RE MISSING the POINT!!

Rubbish, there was no reason to change that setting. Idiots working for this company now.
2025-03-15 06:20 AM
Not good enough. The issue he’s describing is user error. What they’ve created is a technical limitation. There is a use case for fitness classes, large space immersive services (like church services), music lessons, and likely a great many others.
The forced function of solving a user error in not knowing hoe to set up their meetings appropriately is absolutely uncalled for. Those of us who need the automatic enablement of original sound now have to deal with users in an ongoing basis vs fixing a one-time setting like the other case demands. This is the wrong approach.

YES!!! Now is It's terrible....for music makers now. I often forget to turn it ON or it turns OFF when I open it when I do any other movement or click and I don't know until someone tells me the sound is terrible.

The guy in the video is incorrect about laptops not benefitting from the pro audio setting. My singing students who turn on original sound on their Mac laptops sound better and Zoom stops cutting out their high notes. So you do not need a separate mic to benefit, although it is certainly better. He also suggests to grab the psi installer (which is only for Windows) and almost no one serious about audio or with him studio uses. 95% is Macs. So please Zoom engineers at least add an additional "persistent pro audio" setting to the Zoom meeting settings in Admin on pro paid accounts!

Agreed, this is very fustrating for my less technical music students. Please allow an option to keep Original Sound on

may be this is a glitech some time it happens otherwise they are pretty nice people in term of support

No it is a deliberate design flaw.
Despite it being perfectly simple and secure in Version 5.11 they decided to screw Zoom up for millions of musicians all over the world.
2025-02-21 12:35 PM
I can't have a guitar lesson on Zoom!😓
2025-02-21 05:00 PM
You can but its a pain in the backside thanks to ZOOM's own programmers.

Hello everyone,
I’ve been following this thread and wanted to add my voice to the growing number of users frustrated with the change in the "Original Sound for Musicians" default setting. Like many of you, I rely on Zoom for music lessons and performances, and having to manually enable this setting every single time is not only inconvenient but also disruptive to the flow of my work.
The previous functionality, where the setting could be saved and enabled by default, was a game-changer for musicians and educators. It allowed me to focus on teaching and creating music rather than troubleshooting audio settings repeatedly. For my students and less tech-savvy users, this change has made the process unnecessarily daunting.
I understand that Zoom may have made this change to accommodate a broader user base, but it feels like the needs of professional musicians and educators have been overlooked. At the very least, there should be an option in the settings to allow "Original Sound for Musicians" to remain enabled by default for those who need it.
I hope Zoom takes this feedback seriously and considers reinstating the ability to save this setting as the default. Many of us depend on Zoom for high-quality audio, and this change has been a significant step backward.
Thank you for listening, and I look forward to seeing this issue addressed in a future update.
Best regards,
Mark Maxwell

WE have been asking for two years, ZOOM has taken the decision to ignore us.

I’m really annoyed with this "Original Sound for Musicians" thing defaulting to off every time. I teach vocal lessons on Zoom daily, and it’s a hassle to switch it on for every session. My students aren’t great with tech, and I’m tired of walking them through it—half the time they forget, and the sound ends up awful. It used to stay on before, and that worked perfectly for us music folks. Now it feels like Zoom doesn’t care about what we need.
I get that some people might not want it on all the time, but why not just give us a setting to make it our default? It’s such a simple fix. I’ve been digging around for workarounds since I’m on a Mac—someone mentioned an MSI installer, but that’s Windows-only, so no luck there. One thing I’ve tried is keeping a checklist for my students to follow before lessons, but they still mess it up sometimes. Another idea might be setting up a Zoom profile with audio presets, but I’m not sure if that’s even possible yet—has anyone tested that?
I’m new to this forum and plan to stick around. Hoping we can keep pushing Zoom to bring back the option to save this setting. If anyone’s found a better trick for Mac users, please share—I’d love to hear it!

Best option seems to be to Download a free copy of WEBEX and give that a try.
Zoom are ignoring this request.
