Maximise screen size on wide-screen monitor

I have a 27-inch wide-screen monitor, and when I share my screen and then run a PowerPoint presentation, the viewing experience for participants is worse because it cuts out space on the top and bottom and both side as per attached screenshot (which was taken on the participant laptop).

and I would like to know when in presentation mode on PowerPoint, if the presentation can take more up of the viewer's screen, not less as is currently the case.

I think there's two or three things going on here...

1. It looks like you are using an "ultra"-wide monitor, with a aspect ratio greater than 16:9. Most people viewing (your participants) will be viewing on a regular wide screen monitor (16:9). So you are trying to share a screen that does match the proportions of the viewing area. 

2. It almost looks like your slides are setup as 4:3 - but that may just be an optical illusion. But that would certainly compound the problem.

3. You are presenting (Screen Sharing) in Zoom using side-by-side mode - meaning a margin has to be reserved for your video pane also.

Unusually in these situations, I would always prepare my sides in 16:9, and in your case, I would connect a secondary  monitor 1080p 16:19 monitor your machine and share THAT screen, not my ultra-wide.
