Keyboard sound using "alt" key

Hey,

my question:

Pressing the keyboard shortcuts to lift ab the hand (alt + y) or to switch to mute (alt + a) always causes a sound.

It seems... only in Zoom.

If I use "space" to mute the sound...  or do click onto the symbol for mute.. no sound.

Does anybody know how to switch it off?

It seems only to happen in combination with "alt"

Thank you

Matthias

I think you'll find it's a Windows sound control panel setting, specifically the "Program Events" and it is probably set to default beep. I found this answer and followed the instructions there: Zoom makes annoying sound - Cruisers & Sailing Forums (cruisersforum.com)

Copying from the linked topic:

If you are OK with not hearing beeps at other times, you can go into "Control Panel - Sound - Sounds" and change the "Program Events - Default Beep" to "(None)"

I cannot find this setting in my Windows 10 though.

I found it. Just to be specific:

  • hit Windows key
  • type "control panel"
  • type "sound"
  • click the "sound" header at the top of search results
  • click the "sounds" tab
  • scroll down to "default beep"
  • on the drop-down at the bottom, switch the current sound to "(none)" - first position

This is ludicrous turning off the default beep for the whole operating system cause this app is stupid enough to for some reason think they should choose to "beep" when are are choosing to do something like "mute".   This is the epitome of wrong.
