I can no longer claim host when I join a meeting

Until about 2 weeks ago, I could join a meeting and then access the "Claim Host" button through the Participants button. What am I missing, or what's changed? Thanks

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @acarpentieri.

What doesn't work?  I can't tell:

  • You can't enter the meeting
  • The Claim Host button is missing
  • You enter the Host Key, but don't get  Host assigned

A screen shot might help too.

I can enter the meeting, but the Claim Host button is missing.

So if there is a Host present, you – as someone other than the meeting owner, someone with whom the meeting owner has granted Scheduling Privilege, or a designated Alternate Host — will not be able to claim Host, and so the button is not present. Next time this happens, check the Participants window to see if any attendees have Host privileges. If so, don’t expect to see the Claim Host button.

If there are no Hosts present and you still don’t see the Claim Host button, there might be another reason – but I can’t think of one at the moment.

I am the first to join the meeting, so no previously claimed hosts. Thank you for responding. I appreciate it.

I too came across this behavior. On my linux machine I joined the room and claim the host via "Claim host" button. Then the Zoom crashed, when I started the screen share with sound (which does crash all the time since the new Zoom Workspace app upgrade). So I was forced to turn hard reset the laptop and boot into Windows OS, where after loging into the same zoom room "Claim host" button was missing!

the new Zoom Workspace app is really bad, unfortunately we cannot use old zoom versions, that worked flawlessly.

Zoom devs, do something about it!

Thank you!

Very simple. The Claim Host button appears ONLY IF THE HOST IS NOT LOGGED IN.
If  the Host has already joined the meeting, you won't see the Claim Host button.

If/when the Host leaves the meeting or has not yet joined the meeting, then the Claim Host key will be visible.

Hope this makes sense.
