Captions if not the host

Zoom market’s itself as being fully compliant and accessible. I am deaf and rely on captions. I am unable to have captions without the host of a meeting allowing them or the host nominating someone else. There is no incentive for me or for other deaf people to pay for a licence as video meetings are inaccessible whether we pay or not. 

 

I currently attend language lessons and have been since September and the tutor is struggling to understand how to enable captions. They must be a host as the lessons are two hours long.  I have neither the time or ability to talk them through what to do. I have read all of the forum posts I can find to see if I pay for an account whether that will give me the ability to have captions whether the host is capable or willing or not. It seems not. 


When is it going to be possible to get captions on Zoom ?  Will Zoom stop marketing itself as fully accessible until it enables captions for all users.

Hi Kimmingtom, welcome to Zoom Community.

 

The Close Caption function is included in all Zoom licenses. The meeting host must enable it so that the session participants can use it. It is a very simple configuration. I attach a screenshot and send you this link. :

Hiya I appreciate your response. thankyou. 

 - I understand that the meeting host must enable the captions. The host of the meetings that I am attending for my language lessons is unable to set up the captions. Therefore, my accessibility is limited by the hosts competence. 
this is not an accessible platform. Unless I can utilise the functions in a way that prevents me from being disabled, then it is functionally inaccessible.  Zoom has handed my abilities to the host. I am disabled or not by the host., 

 It is like having all of the functions behind a locked door and not giving me the key.

Ok, I understand your situation. If the Session Host cannot enable closed captioning, you may need to enable it from the account settings panel; If he does not have access to that panel, he can request it from an administrator of his account or in the final case, he can raise a ticket at this link:

In order for all the functions that Zoom has to be used in a meeting, it is necessary that the Host be the one to enable it, since it is their Zoom license that is being used. If you purchased a Zoom license, it would not help, since the meetings are scheduled by your teacher and he must configure the meeting preferences.
