Can an external contact start a meeting for me?

Hi there,

We have a Zoom pro account with 2 licenses.

I want to set up a meeting with 2 other people. One is on a free plan. Other will just login to meet.

I'd like to know if there is any way for them to start the meeting without me.

The meeting is 60 minutes and so they can't schedule it on their free plan.

Any solution?

Appreciate any help.

Hi, @DuncanBrett.

I'm assuming you are facilitating a meeting of two people on your own behalf.  Doesn't sound like you do this a lot (or you'd know how to make it work)... and setting up meetings regularly for others as a way to avoid paying for a License is against Zoom's Terms of Service.  So I'll assume you've got good intentions. 😇

The first thing to do is to make sure the meeting is set with the following:

  • Passcode must be enabled
  • Waiting Room must be disabled
  • Join before host must be enabled, preferably for 5, 10, or 15 minutes.

Send them both the Join URL.  With these settings, anyone with the Join URL will be able to enter the meeting.  There will be no Host.

If the attendees need to do anything that a Host would normally do, then you would provide one or both of the attendees with your Host Key.  Any attendee with the Host Key can "Claim Host" from the Panelist window.

Full instructions on using the Host Key is available in this Zoom Support article:
