Zoom on Linux and HD webcams not working

I tested Zoom on different Linux distributions (Garuda, Pop!_OS, Nobara, Mint) using a Logitech C922 webcam (1080p), and in none of them was Zoom able to use the HD resolution. It always defaulted to 480p.
I tried several ways to fix it, but nothing worked—whether using Wayland or X11, GNOME or KDE, the result was the same.

Any idea how to solve this?

Hello,

I would like to report that I’m experiencing the same issue as described in this thread, using Zoom version 6.5.1 on my Linux system:

  • Webcam: HD720P USB webcam (UVC-compliant)

  • Operating System: Debian 12 (Bookworm)

  • Kernel: 6.1.0-37-amd64

  • Desktop Environment: LXQt 1.2.0

  • Window Manager: Xfwm4 (X11)

  • Zoom version: 6.5.1

  • Issue: The “Enable HD” checkbox is greyed out. The webcam only works in low resolution (likely 640x480), despite supporting 1280x720.

I’ve verified that:

  • v4l2-ctl shows full HD support,

  • Camera works in HD in other apps (e.g., Cheese, OBS),

  • This is not an issue with permissions, system modules, or camera drivers.

It also works perfectly in Zoom version 6.3.11 — HD is available and the checkbox is functional.

This seems to be a regression introduced in 6.5.1 and affects multiple Linux users with different hardware and desktops. There are no system-level permission or driver issues.

Please confirm whether this issue is known, and whether a fix is planned or a workaround exists (other than downgrading Zoom).

Thank you

Ditto.

Client:      6.4.10
OS:          Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon
Kernel:     5.15.0-142-generic
Camera:  Logitech Brio 101 (1080p)

I did finally figure out the correct link to get the older client deb mentioned above downloaded.  The HD option actually works for it.

I have the same problem using Zoom Workplace 6.5.10 (3973) client on a new install Debian 13 on Intel N100 with Logitech C270 webcam.  I can use it, but HD mode is not working.  It did work previously on Debian 12 on an earlier version of the Zoom Workplace.  Also, the Debian 13 Camera app works fine with an HD mode, so the problem is not in the camera, driver, or OS.

I've never got Zoom to work well on this laptop (Linux). The introductory pages and the icons at the bottom are tiny - not really legible - and the camera image is really close-up and blurry. It's embarrassing, on professional calls. Can't see how to zoom out or sharpen, and it would be great to have the small introductory screens bigger, also the icons.

I've kept up with updates.

Zoom on Linux currently limits many webcams (including the Logitech C922) to 480p due to how it handles video capture.

Quick fix:
Run Zoom with this command
