Recordings with two screens - images/videos

Hello,

unfortunately, I have another question:

I work with two screens. The program that needs to be recorded runs on the main screen, while I see the Zoom tools and the participant list/videos on the second monitor. However, when I record the session, the participant images are displayed in the recording and partially cover important information from the program being shown. How can I prevent this permanently?

I start Zoom on a MacBook Pro, Tahoe from the Zoom website.

Thank you very much for your help.

To set up cloud recording in Zoom (even if your Zoom app or web portal is in German), you’ll need to access the Zoom web portal in your browser. Here’s how you can find and adjust the cloud recording settings:

  1. Open your browser and go to the Zoom web portal: https://zoom.us/signin
  2. Sign in with your Zoom account.
  3. In the left sidebar, click on Einstellungen (Settings).
  4. Click on the Reiter (tab) called Aufnahme (Recording).
  5. Under Cloud-Aufzeichnung (Cloud Recording), you can enable or adjust your cloud recording settings.
    • You’ll see options like “Nur freigegebenen Bildschirm aufzeichnen” (Record shared screen only) or “Aktiven Sprecher mit freigegebenem Bildschirm aufzeichnen” (Record active speaker with shared screen).
  6. Make sure to save any changes.

If you don’t see the cloud recording options, you may be on a Basic (free) plan, which does not include cloud recording. Cloud recording is available for Zoom Workplace Pro and higher plans.

Hello @helpa,

When recording a Zoom meeting while sharing your screen, the recording will capture whatever is visible in the shared area, including any participant videos or floating Zoom windows that overlap your shared content. To prevent participant images or Zoom tools from covering your main program in the recording, follow these steps:

How to Prevent Participant Videos from Appearing in Your Recording:

  1. Share Only the Application Window:

    • When you click “Share Screen,” select the specific application window you want to record (not your entire desktop). This way, only that window is recorded, and floating Zoom windows (like participant videos) will not appear in the recording.
  2. Use “Hide Floating Meeting Controls”:

    • In the Zoom sharing toolbar, click “More” and select “Hide Floating Meeting Controls.” This will hide the Zoom toolbar from your recording.
  3. Move or Minimize Participant Videos:

    • Before you start sharing, drag the participant video panel to your secondary screen (the one you’re not recording). If you’re sharing only the main screen or application window, participant videos on the other screen won’t be included in the recording.
  4. Use “Side-by-Side: Speaker” or “Side-by-Side: Gallery” Mode:

    • If you want to see participants but not have them in the recording, use side-by-side mode and make sure the participant video panel is outside the shared area.
  5. Local vs. Cloud Recording:

    • If you use local recording, it captures exactly what you see in the shared area. If you use cloud recording, you can set the recording layout in your Zoom web portal under Settings > Recording. For example, you can choose to record only the shared screen without participant videos.
  6. Adjust Cloud Recording Settings (if using cloud recording):

    • Go to zoom.us and sign in.
    • Navigate to Settings > Recording.
    • Under “Cloud Recording,” select “Record active speaker with shared screen” or “Record shared screen only.” Deselect “Record gallery view with shared screen” and “Record active speaker, gallery view, and shared screen separately.”

Thank you for your reply. I'm having the same problem: I can't find the options in the German version of Zoom.

Where do I set up cloud recording, for example?

Best regards,
helpa
