Audio during meeting/microphone

Hi all,
I would really appreciate it if someone can help me.
When I start a meeting I click share computer sound so participants can hear my music I play through Apple Music. Then I connect my headphones and no one can hear me. If I stop sharing my computer sound they then can hear me but the music goes off. Anyone experienced this and know what to do? It was working fine 2 weeks ago and I can't work out whats changed. Thank you.

Hi CDfitness,

I get how frustrating this must be, especially since everything worked fine just two weeks ago. This is actually a common issue when sharing computer sound and using headphones at the same time.

Why it happens

  • Sharing computer sound sends all system audio (like Apple Music) to Zoom.
  • Plugging in headphones can switch your mic input, making Zoom “lose” your voice.
  • Result: A clash between shared audio and your mic.

Quick fixes to try

  • Use a USB headset with a built-in mic (separate channels for input & output).
  • Check Zoom > Settings > Audio and pick the right mic after plugging in headphones.
  • In Advanced Share Settings, try “Share computer sound only when sharing screen.”
  • Use different devices: computer speakers for music, separate mic for voice.

Fast troubleshooting

  • Test in a practice meeting first.
  • Make sure your mic has permission in system settings.
  • Update Zoom for the latest audio fixes.
  • Plug in headphones after you start sharing sound.

Good news: This is fixable! Most people solve it just by adjusting their audio device settings.

Thanks,
J

Hi, thanks for trying to help with this.

it also doesn’t work if I have no microphone plugged in. If I share my computer sound the participant cannot hear me at all. If I shut the computer sound down then they can hear me but can’t do both at the same time. This only happens on my Apple Mac. I have tried on several other laptops that are friends and all work fine with and without headphones.

all I do usually is start new meeting

share computer audio

turn on headphones

make sure connected to the correct microphone

then it works. There must be something that has changed in the last few weeks but only on my device?
